Cash, Fred Thomas
HAMPTON - Fred Thomas Cash, age 90, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Sentara
Careplex in Hampton. A native of Richmond, Va., he had been a Peninsula
resident since 1942. Fred was a Peninsula businessman. Throughout his career
he worked in several fields including real estate, insurance, and
construction. He also helped train deaf students at the Virginia State
School for the Deaf and Blind by serving as a part-time teacher for 19
years. He retired from Pembroke Construction Co., Inc., in 1981 as
Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer and co-owner. He was a member of St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, Bremond Masonic Lodge #241 A.F. & A.M., and various
charitable organizations. His hobbies included gardening, boating, and
fishing. Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mabel
W. Cash. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca C. Blakemore and her
husband, Colin B. Blakemore, and two grandsons, Owen R. Blakemore and Darren
A. Blakemore, all of Hockessin, Del.; and many nieces and nephews as well as
great-nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held
from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in St. Paul's Episcopal
Church, 221 34th Street, Newport News, with interment to follow at the
Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be
made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Outreach Program, 221 34th Street,
Newport News, VA 23607.
