“He who thinks and thinks for himself, will always have a claim to thanks; it is no matter whether it be right or wrong,
so as it be explicit. If it is right, it will serve as a guide to direct; if wrong, as a beacon to warn.”

- Jeremy Bentham

I want to make clear that I have no way of knowing the ownership history of the Beacons from which I scan these images. I can only assume that some disgruntled student drew the axe seen embedded in Principal Maidment’s head. At least, in 1963, that malcontent was not likely to enter NNHS with an arsenal of weapons and express his dissatisfaction with the Administration by killing scores of students. Times do change, but not always for the better.

Thanks, Dave!

This was a particularly newsy edition, and I was stressing over how to include it all by the scanning method I had been using.  Well … I would like to offer my very belated, but very sincere thanks to the Beacon Staff for selecting a newsprint size in which each page is exactly twice the size of an 8 ˝ x 11 sheet. As a result, I found it to be embarrassingly simple to scan the top and bottom of each page with a bit of overlap.

So, herein is the entire edition. Indeed, I plan to similarly scan future issues. No longer will I have to decide what the alumni get to see; now they will be able to see it all.

WOWZERS! This new format is going to save us both - and particularly you, I should hope - a great deal of time!
I can hardly imagine how many hours you've spent scanning these individual articles! Thanks, Dave!
