Christopher Allen White
Hillsboro High School (IL) Class of 2002
Friends and Schoolmates,
It truly breaks my hearts to tell you that Chris White (Hillsboro HS, IL - '02) lost his battle to live following the automobile accident in which he was involved on December 9, and was removed from life support in Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Illinois, on the evening of Friday, December 12, 2008. He would have been 25 years old on December 23.
From Me ('65) of NC - 12/10/08 - "Chris and Jeremy White":
We received word last night of a tragic accident involving Chris White (Hillsboro HS, IL - '02) of IL and his brother, Jeremy White (Hillsboro HS, IL - '05) of IL. Chris has been my #6 son Dale's (Harty - Hillsboro HS, IL / American School, IL - '02 - of MA) best friend since they began kindergarten together, and Jeremy was in the same class in school as my daughter, Adrienne (Harty - Hillsboro HS, IL / American School, IL - of NC). Chris was a very frequent visitor in our home, and as he's only twelve days older than Dale, they were especially close, and have remained so over the years and despite the distance.
Reports have been conflicting, but both young men are in critical condition.
We do know that Chris is in a coma, and his spinal cord has been broken in
several places. It is feared that should he recover, he'll be a
We are all extremely distraught. Your fervent prayers are earnestly requested for both of these exceptionally fine young men.

From the (Illinois) State Journal-Register - 12/09/08:
Jeremy C. White, 21, of Taylor Springs and his passenger, Christopher A. White, 24, of Hillsboro were airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
The second driver involved, Deborah A. Dour, 43, of Sorento was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. Her condition is not known at this time.
The crash happened about 8:10 a.m. on Old Route 66 at North 10th Avenue near Litchfield.
According to police, Jeremy White was westbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and failed to stop at the intersection, then struck a northbound Ford Mustang driven by Dour. She swerved to try to avoid a collision but was unable to.
White’s car overturned and landed in a field. The Mustang came to rest in a ditch.
Jeremy White and Christopher White were taken to St. Francis Hospital before being airlifted to Memorial.
The crash remains under investigation. Tickets are pending.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete (or at least unclear to me at this time), but it is known that it will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 in Hillsboro, Illinois. Chris will be buried wearing his beloved St. Louis Blues jersey, shorts, and sandals - as he would have wanted.
Our hearts are breaking for all those who mourn his passing - especially his parents, brother (who remains in critical condition), and his many friends.

Be Still, My Soul
Katharina von Schlegel, b.
Translated by Jane Borthwick (1813 - 1897);
Music by Jean Sibelius (1865-1957)
Be still, my soul:
The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev'ry change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul:
Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.
Be still, my soul:
The hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
