Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   We have another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.    Jack Flynn, Class of 1929, passed away in Yorktown on Friday, July 25, 2008 at the age of 96.

                Jack W. Flynn
  YORKTOWN - Jack H. Flynn, 96, of Piney Point, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008.

He was born in Newport News, Va., March 29, 1912, to the late John Louis Flynn and Evelyn Gault Flynn.

Mr. Flynn was the second Boy Scout in Newport News to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a 1929 honor graduate of Newport News High School and a member of the Newport News Chapter of the Order of De Molay.

During World War II, Jack served with the 3rd Infantry Regiment, European Theater. After the war and until his retirement in 1979, he was the sales representative and General Manager of G.L. Dinsmore Wholesale Confectionary and Paper Company. He was also an honorary member of the Wholesale Marketing Association, Washington, D.C.

Mr. Flynn was the oldest and longest continuous member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Newport News, where he served in the vestry and as Treasurer. In addition, he volunteered monthly for the chapel services at Riverside Convalescent Home. Jack enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Page Flynn Gresham of Newport News.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy T. Flynn; nephew, Paul G. Gresham and wife, Laniere; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 34th St., Newport News, Va., or your favorite charity.

Jack played an important part in my life. In addition to calling on me for many years, Jack was a true friend. Dee, I want you to know how much Sue and I thought of Jack. We have kept up on you two though Carlile and Vickie
