Morris Sandler
(d. 6 Mar 2008)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This morning brings us more sad news.  Morris Sandler, father of    Teddy Sandler
('60) of VA and of    Susan Sandler Conlon ('66) of NY, passed away in Boca Raton, Florida on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the age of 94.

From Fred Mays ('60) of VA - 03/07/08:

Carol:  I wondered if you are aware that the father of    Ted Sandler and    Susan Sandler passed away yesterday.  I understand there will be a graveside service on Sunday at 12:30 at the Jewish Cemetery in Hampton.  Ted graduated in 1960 and I think Susan graduated in 1966.  I do not know her married name....she is a highly successful playwright in New York and I understand teaches at New York University.  It has not been in the paper; however, should be there tomorrow.

Oh, by the way, I now work part time at Peninsula Funeral Home.  I really like working there.

Take care, Fred Mays

Thank you, Fred. I had not yet heard.  The Sandlers were fairly close neighbors of mine when I lived in the Stuart Homes apartments prior to 1960, and I remember them quite well.  Occasionally Susan and I would walk home together after school.  They have my deepest sympathies.

From the Daily Press - 03/03/08:

            Morris Sandler

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Morris Sandler, longtime resident of Newport News, died on March 6, 2008, at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Fla., at age 94, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New York City, he moved to Virginia in 1948, where he worked in a family owned furniture business before becoming a real estate broker. An active member of B'nai Israel Synagogue in Hampton, he served as chairman of the building committee for many years and was president of the Forum, a vibrant club devoted to arts and letters. His own art work was displayed locally at The Peninsula Museum in community based shows and is valued in many privately owned folk art collections. Following the death of his beloved wife, Rose Sandler in 2000, he moved to Boca Raton, where he became active in the Century Village Democratic Club and American Society of Mogen David. In summers, he studied at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and San Diego State University in the senior programs and was also a summer resident of Nantucket Island, Mass.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Sandler Conlon, and son-in-law, Hugh Conlon, of New York City; his son, Theodore of Newport News; and his sister, Ida Vogel of Boca Raton.

Donations in his honor can be made to the B'nai Israel Synagogue, 3116 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23661.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, by Rabbi Norman M. Golner, in the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula in Hampton, Va.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dearest Susan and Hugh,
Words are truly inadequate to express our profound sorrow at your Father's passing. We loved the time we spent with him on Nantucket and the emails he sent us when he was in Florida. He was blessed in many ways, non the least was with a wonderful, loving wife and a daughter who adored and supported him always and his dear son, Ted. The world is a sadder, smaller place without Morris Sandler.

Our deepest condolences are extended to the Sandler family and their friends.

Y'all take good care of each other!  TYPHOONS FOREVER!  We'll Always Have Buckroe!

                          Love to all, Carol
