Charles Dickens' 195th Birthday

"Never, never, before Heaven, have I thought of you but as the single, bright,
pure, blessed recollection of my boyhood and my youth. Never have I from the
first, and never shall I to the last, regard your part in my life, but as something
sacred, never to be lightly thought of, never to be esteemed enough, never,
until death, to be forgotten."

- Charles Dickens, Dombey and Son (1846-1848)
(07 Feb 1812 - 9 June 1870)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's theme, I'll admit, caught me by surprise, which is too bad, considering that Dickens is one of my favorite authors.

Domi and Carol,
<<"What was then Huntington Avenue"-- what is it now?>>
After consulting a map at Mapquest I find that it is still Huntington Avenue.  It is the avenue on the other end of the street that changed names.  That one was Virginia Avenue. when I lived there, but is now Warwick Boulevard.

Hi, Ev:
By now I am rather confident that you have heard from Bobby Fowler, but just in case you and Sandra Canepa have not been able to reach him, I heard from Hilton Henderson this morning that he is fine. He heard the storm coming, but sustained no damage and no injury.
I had Sandra's email mail but cannot find it when I need it, so if you would pass this along to her it will be greatly appreciated.
TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan

I really enjoyed revisiting Stuart Gardens.  Those were such good times.  We lived on the corner of Roanoke and 15th Street across the street from the Sanders.  Dad was the plumber for the development so we got by with nothing.  Everyone looked out for everyone else's kids.  If any of us did anything, Dad knew before we ever got home.  You just don't find neighbors like that anymore.  Thanks for the memories.
P.S.  I also have very fond memories of "Buggie" (your Mom).  Do you remember how she got that nickname?

Thanks, Friendly Conduit!!!

Hope matters are improving there in Fayetteville for you and Paul and your family.

From Norman Covert ('61) of MD - 02/06/07:

Warm Greetings on a cold day (4 degrees) Webmistress,
How brazen of me to complain about being 64 (there's a song in there) the other day. That birthday isn't until Saturday. My mother, Elizabeth Goodson Covert (MD '37) recalls vividly that there were two other babies in the Buxton Hospital delivery room on Feb. 10, 1943, twins Bobby ('61) and the late Bernie Helmer ('61). Please (oh, please) add that day to your list. I promised not to blab that my brother Harry Covert (VA '57) celebrated his 67th on Jan. 6th.
Norm Covert (MD, '61)

  Thanks, Norm!

1.    From Dee Hodges Bartram ('66) of VA - 01/23/07 - "NNHS February Fling":

I have reserved Angelo's Restaurant on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard for February 24 from 6-10 p.m. for a get together of all classes.  It will be completely casual.  Just come in for some dinner or just to say hi.  All I ask is that you let me know if you are coming so I can have an accurate count so Angelo can decide if he needs more waitresses that night.

Please pass this on to any class alumni and ask them to contact me if they would like to come.  They can either e-mail me or call me at 868-8443.

Please, also tell them that if the weather is bad to call Angelo's at 599-5727 to make sure the dinner is still on.

Thanks and I hope to see you there!!

There is no hole in this pavement.

Where Is Love?

From the Broadway Musical Oliver, based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist (1837-1839)

Whe-e-e-e-ere is love?
Does it fall from skies above?
Is it underneath the willow tree that I've been dreaming of?

Whe-e-e-e-ere is she?
Who I close my eyes to see?
Will I ever know the sweet "Hello" that's meant for only me? Who can say where she may hide?
Must I travel far and wide
Till I am beside the someone who I can mean something to?
Whe-e-e-e-ere, whe-e-e-e-ere is love?

Every night I kneel and pray
Let tomorrow be the day
Till I see the face of someone who I can mean something to
Whe-e-e-e-ere, whe-e-e-e-ere is love?
