NEWPORT NEWS - Frederick W. Allen Sr., 66, died at his
home on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, surrounded by his
loving family and friends. A 1955 graduate of Newport
News High School, Fred served in the MI department of
the Newport News Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in
November 1993. He was the son of the late John L.
'Red' and Frances Monfalcone Allen of Newport News.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his loving and
devoted wife of 46 years, Gwen Davis Allen; three
sons, Frederick W. 'Rick' Allen Jr. and his wife,
Kathy, of Gloucester, Jeffery C. Allen and his wife,
Barbara, of Newport News, Mark S. Allen and his wife,
Debbie, of Smithfield; one sister, Faye A. Andrashko
and her husband, Gary, of Springfield, Ill.; three
brothers, John L. Allen Jr. and his wife, Mary,
Charles F. Allen and his wife, Sonja, of Newport News,
Richard C. Allen and his wife, Cheryl, of Gloucester;
two grandsons, Nickolas Stephen and Christopher Wayne
Allen; an adoring mother-in-law, Henrietta Davis of
Newport News; a devoted sister-in-law, Kathy D.
Sosebee and her husband, Nathan, of Hampton; and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
Fred's life was about helping others, be they family,
friends, or anyone in need. His joy came from being
available to repair or replace anything broken and
loved to pitch in anytime and help with painting and
home repairs for family and friends. His loving
grandsons will cherish the memories of his teaching
them to swim, ride bikes, and bat baseballs. He spent
much quality time with them, going to the park, riding
bikes, and was always there if needed to care for
them. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral
service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7,
at Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeffrey
Cannon and Pastor Gregg Cox. Burial will follow at
Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist
Church Building Fund, 133 Deep Creek Road, Newport
News, VA 23606 or Riverside Hospice, 11815 Rock
Landing Drive, Newport News, VA 23606.

Dear Gwen and Family,
We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Freddy last Saturday.
I shall not forget the good times we had at North End, Jackson School and High School. Thank goodness for the good old days.
