Carleton E. Spivey Jr.

Carleton E. Spivey Jr., 64, passed away unexpectedly
on Wednesday, June 6, 2001.

A native of Newport News, he graduated from Newport
News High School in 1955, where he served as drum
major for two years. He retired as supervisor of
administration with the U.S. Postal Service in 1992
after 38 years of service. He was previously employed
with Peninsula Funeral Home for 18 years.

Carleton was a member of Trinity United Methodist
Church for 64 years, where he was presently lay leader
and former chairman of the Administrative Board. He
was a member and pianist for the Adult Bible Class. He
was also a member of Bremond Masonic Lodge AF&AM
Number 241 for 41 years. He was an avid Redskins fan.

Carleton was preceded in death by his parents, Mary
Allene Myers Spivey and Carleton Edward Spivey Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Barbara Damron
Spivey; two daughters, Denise Gail Spivey of Newport
News and Debbie Spivey Outlaw and her husband, Teddy;
three grandchildren, Conrad Edward, T.J. and Randall
Outlaw, all of Newport News; two nieces, Katherine
Damron and Pam Scheck of Hampton; his great-niece,
Lindsay and three great-nephews, Christopher, Tyler
and Ryan.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 9, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral
service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity
United Methodist Church, Newport News, by the Rev.
Glen H. Cannon. Burial will follow in Peninsula
Memorial Park with Masonic Rites conducted by Bremond
Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
Trinity United Methodist Church Organ Fund, 228 29th
St., Newport News, VA 23607.
