MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - James F. Powell Sr., 66, of
Martinsburg, W.Va., and Newport News, Va., died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008,
at City Hospital. He was a native of Newport News and attended Christopher Newport College. He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company in the X30 department and later owned and operated Helmer Feed Store. Jimmy was a man of many talents who will always be remembered for his ability to tell a story and for his incredible sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith McCann; stepfather, Richard McCann; and brother, George Presley Powell. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda A. Powell; one son, James F. Powell Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth; one daughter, Susan P. Taylor; five grandchildren, Suzanne Oliver and husband, SFC Matthew, Emily Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Carly Powell, and James F. Powell III; one future great-grandson, Austin Matthew Oliver; one brother, Robert W. Powell and wife, Linda of Seaford, Va., and one sister, Brenda Ford of Hampton, Va. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. Interment will be private.
