Our Childhood Visits to Santa
"What do you call people who are afraid
of Santa Claus? Claustrophobic."
across other "treasures" as I was rummaging through a trunk at
They inspired me to suggest a new page to which subscribers could contribute:
"My Childhood Visits to Santa"
I will begin:
I would bet that many Typhoons (and Crabbers and Farmers and Mariners) have one or more photos of their visits to Santa. If a few more are submitted, we can see if the Santa in mine resembles the Santa in theirs. My photos were not labeled, but I am guessing that the location was Nachman's. If other photos are labeled and the Santa is the same, then we will know.
Anyway, it should be good for a few laughs. Perhaps we can all submit funny captions to fit the expressions ... both ours AND Santa's.

David, I may have mentioned this once or twice before, but you were one of the most naturally adorable little boys I've ever seen.
Thanks so much, both for the images and the great suggestion!
I altered the name of the page ever so slightly.
After (my father) retired, he (are you ready?)
was the Santa Claus whose lap you sat on at
and told your dreams and wishes to.
He loved it and he loved every kid that sat on his lap ~~~ even the ones that peed on him.
That was MY Dad, and he was the BEST !!

You can add this
to the Santa pictures!! I finally checked our
website again, not finished looking yet!!
I got off Santa’s lap and told my mom that Santa had bad breath!!! Only me!!

I posted this a few years ago, but here it is again! Sherri and little Stevie (me) on Santa's lap at Nachman's Department Store, downtown Newport News, Virginia, 1956. I was 2.5 years old and my sister was 5.

Yeah, that's me, a bit
camera shy and perhaps a bit overwhelmed visiting the Miller & Rhoads
Santa, downtown Richmond, Virginia in 1965, about the age that I began
developing an interest in reptiles...
A few years back when collar buttons were buttoned, hair was frantically combed, and your pants were pulled up to your armpits for photos. There wasn't any time for smiles after all that.

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town You better watch out You better not cry Better not pout I'm telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town He's making a list And checking it twice; Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice Santa Claus is coming to town He sees you when you're sleeping He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake! O! You better watch out! You better not cry Better not pout I'm telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town He sees you when you're sleeping He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake! O! You better watch out! You better not cry Better not pout I'm telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town Santa Claus is coming to town!
