Carol,

..... My buddy Bill Roady ('60) lived on Wickham in Christopher Shores; his house was the meeting place for SPD.
Frances Hammond
('60) and Joan Sammons (Queen of the Class of 1960) were within a block.....

- Steve Hochman ('60) of VA - 03/12/09

Thanks so much, Steve!  Whether it was Stuart Gardens, Christopher Shores, the Stuart Homes Apartments, or the Stuart Gardens Apartments themselves, that end of Newport News was certainly a wonderful, caring neighborhood back in the fifties and sixties!

Carol,

Christopher Shores was a bustling area when I was growing up. I lived on 14th Street and had plenty of friends from the the ole neighborhood joining me thru my journey through high school. It was for me a the best of times. Friends and cousins to mention a few: Jeanene ('60), Bert ('60), Judy ('65), Harvey ('70) Anker. Then there were Cathy Crockin ('67), Ellen Kurzer ('67), Norman and Mitchell ('66) (now a Rabbi) Smith, Janet Forman ('68), Mark Friedman ('65), Diane Sandler ('68), Kenny Schwartz ('67), and many others.

As I approach my 60th birthday (March 31), I look back and think of all those wonderful years.

- Ivan Anker ('67) of VA - 03/28/09

Thanks, Ivan! I know Lukie Buxton lived there. He went to private school, of course (was it Christ Church - '63??). Didn't Mike ('65) and Janet ('68) Hirschman live in Christopher Shores, too - or is that another one of my Twisted Memories?!?
I think I did not know that Mitchell Smith was a Rabbi, but I'm not surprised, either. WOW!

Long ago, back in the Adam and Eve era, I promised to share with your viewers some of the people I knew who once lived
in Christopher Shores.  I lived on 13th Street.  Earlier we lived on 29th Street in the 700 block when I attended the second through
the 6th grade,
Thomas Jefferson and Walter Reed, and then moved to the Shores.  I think this was around 1956 and then after
graduation from
NNHS in 1961 my parents moved to Mathews County and I ventured into the world of the unknown.

Those that I remember seeing in CS and those I knew who graduated in 1960 are Larry Crum, his brother, Blaine ('57), and sister,
Alma (
'64) (20 July 1946 - 25 Dec 1995), all lived in CS.  Joe Frank, '60, and Bobby Frank, '61, lived directly behind me, and
Billy Roady, '60, lived down the street from the Franks.  Joe Shapiro may have also lived in the Shores.

'61 presented a new group of Typhoons who lived in CS such as, Harold Klesmer, '61, and brother Mike ('59); Judy Mathews, '61
and Steve Seltzer, '61. Bobby Allen ('64) and David Biggs, '62, also lived in the neighbor.

These are just the classmates I knew and I realize I've left out many who lived in CS.  I apologize for my cognitive slippage,
but we are getting older, I think.

- George Helliesen ('61) of MI

Thanks, George!

Our House

- Graham Nash

 I'll light the fire
You put the flowers in the vase
 That you bought today

 Staring at the fire
 For hours and hours
 While I listen to you
 Play your love songs
 All night long for me
 Only for me

 Come to me now
And rest your head for just five minutes
 Everything is good
 Such a cosy room
 The windows are illuminated
 By the sunshine *dudes* and
 Fiery gems for you
 Only for you

Our house is a very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
 Now everything is easy
 'Cause of you
 And our la,la,la, la,la etc

 I'll light the fire
And you place the flowers in the jar
 That you bought today
