Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   There is more sad news today.   Denise Burton, daughter of    Barbara Causey Burton ('65) of VA and Frank Burton of VA, passed away in Chesapeake on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 four days before her 49th birthday. 

   Her uncle,     Johnny Burton, Class of 1963, predeceased her by nearly three years.

      Frances Denise Burton
      CHESAPEAKE - On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, Denise went home to heaven.

She was born in Newport News on January 3, 1967 and was a lifelong Peninsula resident.

Denise was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newport News. She is survived by her mom, Barbara Burton of Newport News, and her dad, Frank Burton and his wife Ethel of Yorktown; her sister Michelle Challis, and her husband Bert, and their children, Thomas and Kristina, all of Yorktown; other siblings, Chris Burton, Billy Bell, Connie Bell and Tammy Bell; and her extended family at S.E.V.T.C.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM Friday, January 1, 2016 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.




Memorial donations may be made to Southeastern Virginia Training Center, Volunteer Services, 2100 Steppingstone Square, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

Expressing my deepest condolences to the Burton Family. I had the pleasure of Denise's acquaintance for many years in Cottage 4C, and I am so saddened to hear of her passing. Keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers.

To Barbara, Michelle, Frank and your families. I feel so honored to have known Denise these past few years. Having been a housemate of my son Bobby at Southeastern Virginia Training Center, we have all loved Denise and will miss her greatly. I send my deepest sympathy to you and to her extended second family at Southeastern. She was so special to all of us.
