12/20/09 - NNHS Newsletter - Behold a Simple Tender Babe

Whatever else be lost among the years, Let us keep Christmas still a shining thing:
Whatever doubts assail us, or what fears, Let us hold close one day, remembering;
Its poignant meaning for the hearts of men. Let us get back our childlike faith again.

- Grace Noll Crowell
(31 Oct 1877 - 31 Mar 1969)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   How obscure must a Christmas carol be for me never to have heard of it?? Apparently, no one on YouTube ever heard of it either, so no bonus video today.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

    From Norm Covert ('61) of MD - 12/19/09, 3:21 PM - "Prayer":

Webdoll,

I wanted to ask that you include my baby sister Fayetta Covert Stansbury (Ferguson ’72, FL.) in the prayer listing. Fay unexpectedly underwent surgery yesterday to remove a mass from her right temporal lobe. The neurosurgeon expects to begin aggressive treatment as soon as she can tolerate it. She is doing as well as can be expected right now, but she has a big fight ahead and we trust that God will give her strength. Since you have no picture, I thought the attached taken in 1956 would work.

Norm Covert ('61, MD)

1956 - Fay and Norm

   OH, I'm so sorry to hear this! Certainly we'll keep Fay - and all of y'all - in our fervent prayers! Thanks for letting us know, and for that adorable photo, Norm!

     From Me ('65) of IL - 12/13/09 (altered for date and repeated):

   I feel strongly impressed today to ask your fervent prayers on behalf of five people whose issues have not been mentioned here before. What I'm actually requesting is Five Christmas Miracles, as the various problems all need to find a resolution by New Year's Eve. I know that's only 11 days away now, but I also know among us there are some Mighty Prayer Warriors, and I would deeply appreciate your efforts, as I'm sure would they! Thank you all so very much - and Merry Christmas!

Try this....excellent for Christmas

Grandbabies should love this one.  So did I.

Type in any Christmas song and see what the little puppets do.
HOW DO THEY COME UP WITH THIS STUFF?

   Thanks so much, Linda-Linda! Merry Christmas to you and yours, too!

       From George Helliesen ('61) of MI - 12/19/09 - "Flower Delivery":

I truly believe in this. How many flowers end up at the funeral home and how many flowers did the dead person enjoy while they were alive? Here's an e-flower from me! Enjoy your day!

Flower Delivery .....

I would rather have one rose and
a kind word from a friend
while I'm here, than a whole
truck load when I'm gone .

These Are For You !!!

Don't you know the phrase ...
'Stop and Smell the Flowers' ???

Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps you Glowing,
But .... Only Friends ....

Keep You Going !!!

Thank you, my friend, for being a part of my life,
whether you are a reason, a season or a lifetime.

   Thank you so much, George!

FINALLY:

From ArcaMax Jokes - 12/19/09:

Things Women Want to Hear, but Never Do

Wow, I just don't know what to do with this money we won in the lottery, so why don't you take it to the mall and see if you can find something to buy with it.

Hey, how about inviting your mother to spend the summer with us.

Oh, go ahead and eat that third piece of chocolate cream pie. If it's one thing I hate it's skinny women.

What luck, they had a special rental rate at the video store on romance movies.

You know, that Pam Anderson just doesn't seem to have the brain power that I find so attractive in a woman.

What a break, I won a prize on the radio station.... tickets to either the super bowl or the opening of the New York Ballet. I got first choice so pack your bags for New York, we get to go to the ballet!!!

Who wants to play golf when I can get to see how good the lawn looks when it's freshly mowed.

Shoot, there's nothing on TV but football games. Let's go furniture shopping.

Man I tell you, nothing feels better than getting all spruced up in a suit and tie.

Behold a Simple Tender Babe

BL. Saint Sir Robert Southwell, S.J. (c. 1561 – 21 Feb 1595) / Francis E. Monaghan, C.S.B.

Behold a simple, tender Babe,
In freezing winter night,
In homely manger trembling lies:
Alas! a piteous sight.

The inns are full; no man will yield
This little Pilgrim bed;
But forced He is with simple beasts
In crib to shroud His head.

Despise Him not for lying there;
First what He is inquire:
An orient pearl is often found
In depth of dirty mire.

Weigh not His crib, His wooden dish,
Nor beasts that by Him feed;
Weigh not His mother's poor attire,
Nor Joseph's simple weed.

This stable is a Prince's court,
This crib His chair of state,
The beasts are parcel of His pomp,
The wooden dish His plate.

The persons in that poor attire
His royal liv'ries wear;
The Prince Himself is come from heav'n.
This pomp is prized there.

With joy approach, O Christian soul,
Do homage to thy King;
And highly praise this humble pomp,
Which He from heav'n doth bring.
