12/16/06 - NNHS Newsletter - Happy Hanukkah!

Hanukkah is here!
May the warmth and glow
of each candle you light
make your heart
and home happy and
your Hanukkah bright.

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today is the first full day of Hanukkah!  I found this web page last year which gives some interesting background information:

Of course, it would be much more fun hearing your first-hand accounts!  Because unless you count playing with    Carla Fine's (Cripps - '65 - of Australia) and    Debby Fink's (Golden - '65 - of MA) dreidels in the cafeteria at Magruder School (and I certainly wouldn't - GIGGLES!), I really have no first-hand experience with celebrating Hanukkah.

Karen Weinstein Witte ('60) of FL shared the story of her dreidel collection with us last year:

Thanks again, Karen!   Perhaps you acquired some new ones, yes??

It's also the 62nd anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge.  You know what that means, doncha?!?  That's right!  It's time for your homework!

A Very Happy Birthday today to    Betty Brockwell McClure ('58) of VA!

  Many Happy Returns, Betty!

From Randy Tate ('66) of DE - 12/15/06 - "This is too funny!":

I may have sent this before but it is true and some may have forgotten some of the things this nice man says.    Just a reminder.

Oh, I love this one, Randy!  I think this needs to be distributed on a monthly (if not weekly!) basis.  It seems the world is filled with dreamers who just can't resist believing in totally impossible things.  I'm a big dreamer myself, but even I tend to give a passing nod to reality once in a while!  Thanks, Sweetie!

From  Pam Wright Owen ('62) of VA - 12/15/06:

I just wanted to write you and let you know that I am retiring as of the end of this month and unfortunately will no longer have access to e-mail.  Therefore, I am asking you to remove my e-mail address from your newsletters.  I've certainly enjoyed keeping up with everyone and hopefully, will have a new e-mail address before too long.  My last day to receive an e-mail will be Dec 21.
Thanks for all you do.

Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah

Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah
The sweet celebration
Around the feast we gather
in complete jubilation

Many are the reasons for good cheer
Now that the Season of Lights is here
Many are the reasons for good cheer
Now that the Season of Lights is here

Together we'll weather
whatever tomorrow may bring
So hear us rejoicing and merrily voicing
the Hanukkah song that we sing
So hear us rejoicing and merrily voicing
the Hanukkah song that we sing

Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah
The Festival of Joy
A holiday, a jolly day
for every girl and boy
Whirling dreidels all week long
Eating latkes, singing songs
Whirling dreidels all week long
Eating latkes, singing songs

Now light them, tonight then
The candles all in a row
Retell the story of God in his glory
and dance by the flickering glow
Retell the story and God in his glory
dance by the flickering glow
