THIS DAY IN
WWII:
December 15, 1941 -
Holocaust:
German
troops executed over 15,000
Jews at
Drobitsky Yar, a ravine southeast of the city of
Kharkiv,
Ukraine. December 15, 1942 - The Battle of Mount Austen, the Galloping Horse, and the Sea Horse began during the Guadalcanal campaign. December 15, 1943 - The Battle of Arawe began during the New Britain campaign.
December 15, 1944 - A single-engine plane carrying U.S. Army Major Glenn
Miller disappeared in thick fog over the English Channel while en route to
Paris. The true fate of the plane and its passengers has never been determined. |
THIS DAY IN 1971: |
December 15, 1971 - Singer-songwriter and guitarist Matthieu Chedid was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France. |
From My Friend, Daniel, of UT - 12/13/14:
“Jesus . . .
descended below all things that he might rise above all things and
comprehend all things. No man descended lower than the Savior of the
world. Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, he travelled from there to
the cross through suffering mingled with blood to a throne of grace; and
in all his life there was nothing of an earthly nature that seemed to be
worth possessing. His whole life was passed in poverty, suffering, pain,
affliction, labor, prayer, mourning and sorrow until he gave up the
ghost on the cross. Still he was God's firstborn son and the Redeemer of
the world.”

BAH HUMBUG POLL:
From
Me
('65) of NC - 12/14/15 - "Top Five Most Annoying Christmas Songs":
I love Christmas
carols and songs, probably much more so than most people..... There are, however, a few songs out there which simply drive me up the wall, and I think chances are excellent that there are some which affect you in the same way. I doubt they are really the same ones so, wondering which ones were your top five, I thought it would be fun to share. Remember, these are just opinions. One man's ecstasy is another's exasperation. I'll begin: 1. Taylor Swift - Last Christmas - Someone please restrain me; I have a very strong urge to wring her neck. No, on second thought, lemme at her. 2. Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus Is Coming to Town - Bruce, how can I say this politely? Just. Shut. UP!!! 3. John Lennon - So This Is Christmas - My daughter assures me I am interpreting this exactly backward from its true intent, but it sounds condescending and highly disrespectful to me. Sorry, I can't seem to drop that thought. So shoot me, just don't inflict that song on me again. 4. Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time Is Here - I know my selection of this borders on heresy, and that this beloved theme song to the Charlie Brown Christmas Special is supposed to be soothing and gentle, but it makes me want to throw things. It reminds me of wimpy soft rock music, which I cannot abide. If you want to rock, put on some Metallica, crank up the volume, and quit being a jerk. If you want it to be beautiful, let's hear from Frank Sinatra and the rest of the crooners singing ballads. 5. Jose Feliciano - Feliz Navidad - This song has been on the top of my list for many, many years. The fact that it's been demoted to fifth place shows you just how annoying I find those other four songs. It could have been a good song, if it had, oh, I dunno, some more actual lyrics, and another singer whose voice didn't grate so hard on the nerves. I would have nominated Julio Iglesias, but no one asked me. |
Your turn! ![]() |
In a world filled with cynicism and worse, I think
the attached worthy of a few minutes of your
time...especially during Christmas season. Not
because I crafted it, but just because. You'll
see...
