Dear
Friends and Schoolmates,
I was rather astounded
this morning to read of the death of Mary Chappell Price, probably a
member of the Class of 1921, who passed away in Newport News on
Saturday, December 08, 2012 at the age of 106.
Her nephew, the late
Troy Chappell
(10 Dec 1937 - 07 July 2008),
was a member of the Class of 1955.
Fifty years
ago, Mrs. Price was a friend of
my mama's, the late Maxine Frix Buckley (John
Marshall HS - '25) (19
May 1908 - 15 Feb 1999)
at Trinity Methodist Church.
Interestingly, she was a member of the
Wesleyan Service Guild (Unit No. 1) with the late
Eunice
Bassett Leyland, Class of @ 1927
(d. 16 Dec 2002)
and the late Dorothy Dodge
Gruver (06
Nov 1913 - 18 Jan 2006),
mother of
Bill Gruver ('62) of
Northern VA.

Servant of God, Well Done!
Words by
Charles Wesley (28 Dec 1707 - 29 Mar 1788)
Music by
George J. Elvey (27 Mar 1816 - 09 Dec 1893)
(The Methodist Hymnal, 1966, #288)
Wesley wrote this hymn in 1770 on
the occasion of the death of clergyman George White.
Elvey's tune, "Diademata", has been set to several other hymns, notably "Crown
Him with Many Thorns" and "Soldiers of Christ, Arise".
Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare’s past;
The battle’s fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last.
With saints enthroned on high,
Thou dost thy Lord proclaim,
And still to God salvation cry,
Salvation to the Lamb!
O happy, happy soul!
In ecstasies of praise,
Long as eternal ages roll,
Thou seest Thy Savior’s face.
Redeemed from earth and pain,
Ah! when shall we ascend,
And all in Jesus’ presence reign
