|December 11, 1920 - Irish War of Independence: In retaliation for a recent IRA ambush, British forces burned and looted numerous buildings in Cork city. Many civilians reported being beaten, shot at, robbed, and verbally abused by British forces.|

December 11, 1941 - Germany and Italy declared war on the United States, following the Americans' declaration of war on the Empire of Japan in the wake of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States, in turn, declared war on them.

Frances' Fabulous Pineapple Cake
|2 beaten eggs
2 cups sugar
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
|1 (20-oz.) can
undrained crushed pineapple
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Combine ingredients, and mix until smooth. Pour into greased 9" x 13" pan. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 45 minutes. Frost while hot. Chill. Cake tastes much better when chilled.
|1 (8-oz.) pkg.
1/2 stick butter
|1 3/4 cup
1 tsp. vanilla
Beat softened cream cheese and butter with beater. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, and beat until smooth.
