Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   
   I was devastated this morning to read of the death of 
   Margaret Burns Edwards, Class of 1967, wife of   Bruce Edwards ('67) of VA.  The sister of Lee Burns ('68) of MO and Robert Burns ('71) of VA and of the late  Barbara Burns Reeves ('65) (09 Aug 1947 - 29 Apr 2005) and Carol Burns Crouch (d. 22 Jan 1998), and sister-in-law of Robert Wayne Edwards of TX, Margaret passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News fifteen days after her 62nd birthday.

   Thank you, Richard. I was just finishing this Newsletter when I caught your note.  Margaret and I reconnected several years ago, and enjoyed occasional long phone calls over the years.  We sat with her and Bruce at their 40-Year Reunion in the fall of 2007, and I truly enjoyed her company.  She was the go-to person whenever I had questions or needs.  The last time I heard from her was in early July when she asked me to post an urgent announcement concerning Min-Pin rescue, characteristically thinking of others:

   She always selflessly offered to supply free floral arrangements for any NNHS class gathering.  I normally do not choose animated Divider Lines for Memorial Newsletters, but I selected this one as I imagined Margaret's floral shop in Poquoson would be a beautiful, festive sight this time of year, and it made me think of her. I shall miss her.

                   Margaret Burns Edwards

   

POQUOSON - Margaret Ann Edwards, 62, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News.

She was born Nov. 23, 1948, in Hutchins, Texas, and had resided in Poquoson for the past 24 years. Margaret retired from Verizon and became the owner of Floral Fashions of Poquoson. She was known in the community around her as a caring and compassionate person, and will always be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Maude and Leburn Ottis Burns Sr.; and sisters, Barbara Reeves and Carol Burns Crouch.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Bruce L. Edwards; two loving daughters, Amy C. Lockhart and husband, Rob F. III, and their son, Ben, all of Raleigh, N.C., and Emily K. Holloway and husband, Shannon W., and their children, Shannon and Kristopher, all of Poquoson; two brothers, Leburn Burns Jr. and wife, Vicki, and their children, Justin, Hannah, and Martha, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Robert Burns and wife, Cindy, and their children, Phillip and Lauren, all of Yorktown; brother-in-law, Robert Wayne Edwards and wife, Trudy of Helotes, Texas; and special companion, "Fiona."

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and at other times at 7 Freemoor Drive, Poquoson. A celebration of Margaret's life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, by Pastor M. A. Truckenmiller of Breakthrough Worship Center. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.

It will be hard to go to the shop and not see her in her chair, she was so caring and giving. She will truly be missed by all of us, nothing will be the same without her. We have good memories that she leaves us, to help comfort us and the family during this time.

  Bruce, Emily, and Amy,
Margaret has been part of my life, from the first moment I met her at Verizon over 20 years - the most caring, giving, loving, and understanding friend you could ever have. I will miss her every day, our conversations about our grandchildren and our family.
Bruce, Emily, Amy, you will always be in my heart.

I learned of Margaret's passing yesterday and was very saddened.
I only knew her through our conversations when ordering altar flowers for my church, 1st UCC of Hampton. What a dear lady. She will greatly missed.

Margaret had the biggest heart of anyone I know...such a love for her pets, grandchildren, family, and the Lord. I have faith that she is smiling down on us and I thank her for the wonderful times we shared. I miss her greatly and pray for her family during this difficult time.
