Feast of the Immaculate Conception

“We never give more honour to Jesus than when we honour his Mother,
and we honour her simply and solely to honour him all the more perfectly.
We go to her only as a way leading to the goal we seek - Jesus, her Son.”

- Saint Louis Marie de Montfort
(31 Jan 1673 - 28 Apr 1716)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Love you,

Charis

   Ah, Charis - another winner! Thanks so much!

   Actually, having lived in Illinois for 18-1/2 years, I'm quite familiar with Casimir Pulaski Day. I was told it was observed there due to the large number of Polish people who settled in Illinois:

   We're doing fairly well here, although we miss you and yours terribly, because we all love you so. Nothing's ever quite the same with you not there.

FINALLY:

From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 12/07/12:

A little boy came home with his parents from church one Sunday. He seemed a little depressed, so his mother asked him if something happened in Sunday school class that he would like to talk about.

He told his mother, "Well, we were singing songs and the teacher made us sing about a poor bear named Gladly that needed glasses and I can't stop thinking about him. She said he was cross-eyed and I feel bad for him.

The mother couldn't understand why the teacher would teach such a song in Sunday school, so she decided to call her. To the woman’s amazement, the teacher said she only taught hymns that morning.

Then the teacher began laughing out loud and said to the mother, “I know what Jeffrey’s' talking about! We learned the hymn 'Gladly The Cross I'd Bear'".

O Gloriosa Virginum

Ascribed to Saint Venantius Fortunatus, Bishop of Poitiers
(c. 530 -c. 600/609)

O gloriósa vírginum,
sublímis inter sídera,
Qui te creávit párvulum
lacténte nutris úbere.

Quod Heva tristis ábstulit,
tu reddis almo gérmine,
Intrent ut astra flébiles,
caeli reclúdis cárdines.

Tu Regis Alti jánua
et aula lucis fúlgida,
Vitam datam per Vírginem,
gentes redémptae pláudite.

Jesu Tibi sit glória,
Qui natus es de Vírgine,
Cum Patre et almo Spíritu,
in sempitérna saécula.

Amen.

O Queen of all the Virgin choir,
Enthroned above the starry sky;
Who with pure milk from thy own breast
Thy own Creator didst supply.

What man hath lost in hapless Eve,
Thy sacred womb to man restores;
Thou to the sorrowing here beneath
Hast open’d Heaven’s eternal doors.

Hail, O refulgent Hall of light!
Hail, Gate sublime of Heaven’s high King!
Through thee redeem’d to endless life,
Thy praise let all the nations sing.

O Jesu! born of Virgin bright,
Immortal glory be to Thee;
Praise to the Father infinite,
And Holy Ghost eternally.

Amen.
