"What do you call people who are afraid of Santa Claus? Claustrophobic."

-- Unknown

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

The history and background information on St. Nicholas Day was covered fairly well two years ago.  Hopefully, it's still available there, so I'll not repeat it:

Wallets were dropped to test other's integrity-see at the results.

These are both fascinating in their own way.  Thanks, Lady!

  From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 12/05/06 - "No e-mails...":

Hi Carol,

I have not received any e-mails lately telling me that there were newsletters...so I went to the site just checkin' and was pleasantly surprised to find some new ones.

ARGHHHH!!!  Not only are Many Other Things acting goofy, now my email announcements are Lost in Cyber Space!

I finished decorating my tree today in preparation for Progressive Dinner guests at my house on Sunday evening.  We put our tree up early because we will go to Virginia for Christmas and I want time to enjoy the tree.  I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!  We had snow flurries both today and yesterday and I also LOVE SNOW!

Now I have to decide what to cook.....

Keep out of the potato soup, wouldja?  Dontcha know that cooking and cleaning are VERY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH!!!

Love you lots, Jeanb

We're finishing all our decorating today, as we're expecting two sets of company tomorrow, and I want it to look festive.  We're almost done - one more strand of lights for the last bush outside, and a re-hanging of the Santa Claus pictures by the dining room table.

Eleanor (Buckley Nowitzky - '59 - of NC) and    Adrienne and I are attending a Progressive Dinner Friday night, but all we need to bring is a fancy cake to be judged.  I think I can handle that much without endangering life and limb again.  WILD GIGGLES!!!

Have a great Christmas, Lady - and thanks for all the updates!

From My Niece, Shari of VA - 12/05/06 - "The Bell":

The Bell

I really hope you take the time to read it all.  I've held many
things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I've
placed in God's hands that I still possess.

Just up the road from my home is a field with two horses in it.
From a distance, each looks like every other horse.  But if you
stop your car or are walking by, you will notice something
quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is
blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has
made a good home for him.  This alone is amazing.  If nearby and
listening, you will hear the sound of a bell.  Looking around
for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the
smaller horse in the field.

Attached to her halter is a small bell.  It lets her blind
friend know where she is, so he can follow her.  As you stand
and watch these two friends, you'll see how she is always
checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then
slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him
astray.

When she returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, she
stops occasionally and looks back, making sure her friend isn't
too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away
just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or
challenges.  God watches over us and even brings others into our
lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little
ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.  Other times
we are the guide horse, helping others see.

Good friends are like this.  You don't always see them, but you
know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.

I really appreciate this selection, Shari.  Thanks so much!

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town!
