   There is still more sad news today.    Katharine Harrell, Class of February 1939, passed away in Sentara Careplex Hospital on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the age of 92.

HAMPTON - Katharine Elizabeth Harrell died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Sentara Careplex Hospital. Katharine was a longtime resident of Newport News until she moved to the Devonshire in Hampton. In 2011, she became a part of the family at Coliseum Park Virginia Health Services.

Katharine was born June 13, 1921. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Edward and Carrie Elizabeth Tyree Harrell and her brother Paul Edward Harrell, Jr. She is survived by her first cousins William A. Hopkins, John E. Hopkins and Marian Tyree Johnson.

She was a February 1939 graduate of Newport News High School, a lifetime participant at First United Church of Christ where she was a member since 1931, and a longtime member of the former Business and Professional Women's Club.

She was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding, Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company, and retired after 50 years of service at Pentran, now Hampton Roads Transit.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Lisa Gaul at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Newport News at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8 at Peninsula Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to First United Church of Christ, 1017 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666-1924.
