He and SueAnne moved to Williamsburg in 1979, and he became involved in the William & Mary Alumni Association.

Bill and SueAnne retired to White Stone, Virginia in 1990. He began building homes in the Northern Neck area, and he served as President of the William & Mary Lower Northern Neck Alumni Society.

He and SueAnne supported animal rights, and his dogs gave him much joy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any gifts of sympathy be made in the form of donations in Bill's memory to: Animal Welfare League, 75 N Main St, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
