“In a mad world, only the mad are sane.”

Akira Kurosawa
(23 Mar 1910 - 6 Sept 1998)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's song has always touched something deep within me.  Of course, that may just be because I'm, you know, mad.....

From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 11/09/07 - "Family photos from Seth":

Hi kiddo,

I know you're probably tired of the photo's but hey, that's what we as g'parents do, right? I was gonna split them up & send only a few, but I don't know how to do dat. Anyway, here they are, Seth, Cameron, Parker & Charlotte. Parker really does adore his little sister; he always wants to hold her.

The ones of just Park, Cam & Seth were taken (in 2005) before Charlotte was born. When Parker looked at them he said, "Oh no, these are when my forehead was really HUGE".

Aren't they a good lookin' family? I'm just SO proud of them.

love, d

As well you should be, David; they're gorgeous - just like you! And all the love is more than obvious!

BUCKROE AMUSEMENT PARK:

It's no secret that when I finally locate that elusive Time Machine, the first place I'll set it will be for the Buckroe Amusement Park in the summer of 1957 so I can go with my family.  The second place I'll visit will be the Buckroe Amusement Park in the summer of 1964 so I can go with my friends.

It's little wonder, then, that when these 24 wonderful vintage images began making the rounds almost a year ago, eight of you sent them to me.

Now they've resurfaced, and two more of y'all have sent them to me again - much to my delight!  Any time I can visit there - even in my imagination - is a great time for me!

From Mrs. Wilma Salmon Robinson (Warwick HS - '51) of VA - 11/12/07 - "Buckroe Amusement Park":

Hi, Carol,

Al Jones of the NNHS Class of '54 sent these pictures to my sister.  Didn't know whether you had gotten them or not.  The comments sound a little like you!

Thanks for all you do for NNHS!

Love,
Wilma Robinson

From Carol Lee Collier Sparrow ('63) of VA - 11/13/07 - "Buckroe Amusement Park":

Hi Carol,

Thanks for all your hard work. Here are some old pictures of Buckroe Beach and Amusement Park that my sister, Suzanne Collier McKown ('70 - of VA), sent me. They bring back a lot of memories. Enjoy.

From Marty Whitmore McCoy ('67) of VA - 11/13/07 - "How smart are you?":

Cute :-)

See how you do.........
Be ready with your cursor when you activate this program you only have a few seconds to answer each question before the next one pops up.. It's really fun and shows just how smart you really are or think you are!!!!

Here is something to add a little stress to your day.
cool little test, goes quick, so pay attention.

Click here, and see how smart you are...

Oh, FUN!  I usually do not do well on timed tests, just because the pressure makes me extremely nervous (I think I keep expecting an electric shock if I don't answer in time) but I scored a 24 - which allowed them to tell me I'm not stoopid, average being 17.8 - so I feel better about myself.

   Thanks, Marty!

From one of my Famous Marines,  Herb Hice of MI, who served in the Pacific Theater during WWII -  11/13/07 - "Dear Carol / Dimples, Flu Time is Coming, Get your Shot !!!"

Dear Carol / Dimples

Here is a nice reminder for everyone to get their Flu Shot; I got mine about one month ago.

Herbie

        Oh dear

     Flu Time Coming

Choose your partners, one and all,
Aspirin, Advil, or Tylenol!

Now fling those covers with all you've got,
One minute cold, the next minute hot,

Circle right to the side of the bed,
Grab the tissues and Sudafed.

Back to the middle and don't goof off;
Hold your stomach and cough, cough, cough.

Forget about slippers, dash down the hall,
Toss your cookies in the shower stall.

Remember others on the brink;
Wash your hands; wash the sink.

Wipe the doorknob, light switch too,
By George, you've got  it, you're doing the Flu!

Some like it cold, some like it hot;
If you like neither, get the shot.

GIGGLES!!! Good for you! Thanks, Herbie Darlin'!

From Cheryl Mays Howard ('66) of VA - 11/13/07 - fyi":

Peace & Blessing,

From Paula Sturtevant Comstock ('62) of TX - 11/13/07 - "Hi":

Greetings Miss Carol,

I just had to tell you how handsome and authentic .  Jacob (Harty - of OH) looked in the pictures in         Brent's (Harty - Hillsboro High, IL - '90- of OH) re-enactment site.

http://cilvilwarhartys.blogspot.com/

It looks like so much fun and such hard work. Good for them.

Oh, WOW, Lady! Telling me how wonderful my children and grandchildren are is a sure way to my heart! I personally am overwhelmed by all they do - including the sewing skills   Bethany (Winona Harty (Siuslaw HS, OR - '94 of OH) is developing in making almost all those historically accurate costumes!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and you're one of the people that I am very thankful for this year and every year.

Cheers, Paula

Ohhh - thanks so much, Pretty Paula! Ya got me again!

 Kids R Funny

My 3 year old son put his shoes on by himself. I noticed that they were on backwards.

I said, "Son, your shoes are on the wrong feet."

He looked up at me with a raised brow and said "Don't kid me, Mom. I KNOW they're my feet!"

Dear Carol / Dimples,
Unusual old pictures!
Look closely at the pictures, they are soldiers and sailors.
During the WW I years, Arthur S. Mole and John D. Thomas made some incredible human pictures by using thousands of sailors or soldiers in uniform to create the following images.

   WOWZERONI!!! Thanks, Herbie Darlin'!

Mad World

- Roland Orzabal

(Tears for Fears, 1982)

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
