November 08, 1939 - Venlo Incident: Two British agents of SIS were captured by the Germans.

Hitler narrowly escaped the assassination attempt of
Elser while celebrating the 16th anniversary of the
Beer Hall Putsch.
November 08, 1940 - Greco-Italian War: The Italian invasion of Greece failed as outnumbered Greek units repulsed the Italians in the Battle of Elaia–Kalamas.
November 08, 1942 - Operation Torch – United States and United Kingdom forces landed in French North Africa.
November 08, 1942 - French resistance coup in Algiers, in which 400
civilian French patriots neutralized Vichyist XIXth Army Corps after 15 hours of
fighting, and arrest several Vichyst generals, allowing the immediate success of
Operation Torch in Algiers.
November 08, 1986 - Vyacheslav M. Molotov died at age 96. During World War II, Molotov ordered the mass production of bottles filled with flammable liquid later called the "Molotov cocktail."
