November Rain

“May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.”

- Irish Blessing

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I think it's raining everywhere in the world today, but that could totally be just my imagination. I would hope instead that whatever weather you happen to be experiencing today wherever you are will bring you joy for one reason or another.

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SbUC-UaAxE - November Rain - Guns N' Roses

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_Rain:

"November Rain" is a power ballad by American rock band Guns N' Roses, written by lead singer Axl Rose and released as a single in June 1992. It appears on the album Use Your Illusion I. It features a sweeping orchestral backing and is one of Guns N' Roses' longest songs.

"November Rain" peaked at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the longest song in history to enter the top ten of that chart.

The song is composed in the key of C major aside from the coda, which is in C minor, but since the guitars, basses and piano are tuned a half step down, the song sounds as if it is in B major and B minor.

At 8:57, it is the second-longest song on the album, the longest being the 10:16 "Coma." It is the third-longest song by Guns N' Roses, behind the 9:24 "Estranged" from Use Your Illusion II.

Its distinct symphonic overtone owes to a sweeping string arrangement, orchestrated by Rose.[1][2]:318 Most live performances during the Use Your Illusion tour lacked the orchestral backing of the song (the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards being the best-known exception).

It is the longest song to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.[3] The song peaked at #3 on the chart, becoming the band's sixth and last Top 10 hit, and eighth Top 40 hit. On the radio, "November Rain" is sometimes played in a shortened version of approximately six minutes, but many classic rock stations continue to play the full version. At around seven minutes in, the song fades and then builds into a two-minute coda featuring lead guitar by lead guitarist Slash, accompanied by vocal chants. This song is listed at number six in the The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos list by Guitar World.[4] This song is also rated #9 in the Richter Scale best songs of all time. "November Rain" was voted #1 on the Rock 1000 2006, an annual countdown of the top 1,000 rock songs by New Zealand radio listeners. It was voted #2 on the Rock 1000 2007, being beaten out by "Back in Black" by AC/DC.[5] The song was placed at #140 on Pitchfork Media's Top 200 Tracks of the 90s.[6] In Chile, The song was placed at #73 on Chilean radio Rock & Pop Rock&Pop 20 Años 200 Canciones...[7]

HEALTH UPDATES:

From My Cousin, Cheryl White Wilson (James Blair HS / John Marshall HS - '64) of VA - 11/05/15:

...It has been a long year for us! My husband, Don (Wilson - John Marshall HS - '64) has battled cancer since January, with chemo, radiation, and horrific surgery. He spent most all of August in the  hospital, plus a long recovery which included learning how swallow again, eat solid foods, lots of pain, etc. He is cancer free now, can eat normally, and is gaining his strength!

In September I fell down our steps and broke my left sacrum. Praise the Lord it was only a thin crack, so no surgery or rehab, but it left me in much pain until just a few days ago. So we have been a "pair" recently.

... We are still beyond exhaustion most of the time...  I love and appreciate you all, and you are a great blessing in my life!!!

WHOO-HOO! Thank you, Cheryl, this is great news! We here in Fayetteville eagerly await your next visit. It has been a mighty rough year for all of us!

 November Rain

Written by Axl Rose (b. 06 Feb 1962)

Recorded by  Guns N' Roses, 1992

When I look into your eyes I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you, don't you know I feel the same? yeah
Nothin' lasts forever and we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain, ooh yeah
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An' no one's really sure who's lettin' go today, walking away

And if we take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head just knowin' that you were mine, all mine
So if you want to love me then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin' in the cold November rain

Do you need some time on your own?
Do you need some time all alone?
Everybody needs some time on their own
Don't you know you need some time all alone?

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal the broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you?

Sometimes I need some time on my own
Sometimes I need some time all alone
Everybody needs some time on their own
Don't you know you need some time all alone

And when your fears subside and shadows still remain, oh yeah
I know that you can love me when there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness we still can find a way
Nothin' lasts forever even cold November rain

Don't you think that you need somebody?
Don't you think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one, you're not the only one

Don't you think that you need somebody?
Don't you think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one, you're not the only one

Don't ya think that you need somebody?
Don't ya think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one, you're not the only one

Don't ya think that you need somebody?
Don't ya think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
