From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 11/03/08 - "NNHS 64/45 REUNION DATES":

Could you post this in each newsletter until Monday, 10 November?

   Certainly, David!

NNHS 1964 Classmates,

At the first meeting of your 45th Reunion Committee, it was decided that October 2009 was the best month in which to schedule our 45th reunion. We initially selected the weekend of 10 and 11 October, which is a holiday weekend (Columbus Day). Our thinking was that you would prefer to travel and attend over a 3-day holiday.  If a suitable venue is not available for that date, our alternate date is the following weekend, 17 and 18 October.

Thanks to the internet and e-mail, we have the opportunity to poll all of you about your date preference.

We are asking you to reply by e-mail with your preference for one of these two possible dates.  If you have already replied to an e-mail which you received, then your preference has been recorded.

Please reply  no later than Sunday, 9 November 2008, to:

Once the responses are tallied, we will arrange a venue for your  preferred date.

TYPHOON Regards,

From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 11/03/08 - "You're not allowed to forget me!":

Maybe I should have sent this? Na, it's not me! But it sure takes the worry off ya!!

There were many, many times this year when I may have disturbed you, troubled you, pestered you, irritated you, bugged you, or got on your nerves with all the e-mails I send out.  So today I just wanted to tell you.....

Tough ----!

There are no changes scheduled for 2009 either!

P.S. You’re not allowed to forget me!

GIGGLES!!! I could never forget you, Wayne Honey!

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to     Brownie Shaffer Haracivet ('62) of VA - 11/04/08 - "RE: Anchors for sale.":

Hi Brownie,

Marcus Higgins ’65 sent this to me, but I don’t know if you had seen it, as well.

Anyway, here is a source for  a 1962 Anchor.

TYPHOON Regards,

Dave Spriggs ‘64

From Marcus C. Higgins of AZ to        Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 11/03/08 - "Anchors for sale.":

I am Marcus Higgins, class of '65, NNHS. I have Anchor yearbooks for sale, from 1961, 62, 63, and 1964. I am asking just $25 total for each book - $15.00 for the Anchor, and the ten dollars it costs to ship from Phoenix, AZ where I live to VA or wherever because the books are heavy. The books are in good condition, just a little signing inside the back cover. Ha.

I can be reached at or 623-386-4286 after 6 pm VA time. Hope someone out there is searching for a replacement book. There are not many left. Last year I sold a '65 and had 4 requests for it. I don't get into a bidding war, just first buyer gets the prize.     Thanks,

Marcus Higgins

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to     Marcus C. Higgins of AZ - 11/03/08:

Hi Marcus,

I don’t recall seeing your offer on your classmate, Carol Buckley’s (Harty) ’65 web site or newsletter, even though you appear to be a subscriber.

Your offer would receive wide exposure to many alumni, if you let Carol post it.

Incidentally, for quite some time I have been on the lookout on behalf of
Jamey Douglas (Bacon) ’66 for a 1966 Anchor. Any idea where she might acquire one?

Dave Spriggs ‘64

From Marcus C. Higgins of AZ to        Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 11/04/08:

Hi Dave:
As they say in the airline business, pilot error. I have sent Carol the info twice, but apparently I am doing something wrong. If you think my memory is bad, you should see my computer skills. So yes, she can post it. I hope it helps someone take another stroll down memory lane. I do not know of any '..66 for sale at this time.

Thank you for the info, and hope you have a great thanksgiving....but remember are what you eat, Ha. So I guess I will be part ham and a little turkey too........Marcus

Thank you so much, Gentlemen! And I had not received the information before, Marcus. I've become accustomed to my mail going to nowhere and beyond, but I didn't realize it was "working" both ways!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 11/04/08 - "Social Security Benefit for certain veterans.":

Hi, Carol:
Much to my surprise, a Marine Corps buddy just wrote to me to clarify a "rumor" he heard about additional compensation in Social Security for the time he served in the USMC. I thought it was common knowledge, but learned this is a mistake to assume anything.
So, let me ask if you would please place this information in one of your newsletters to alert those men and women who served on Active Duty during the times specified and are now approaching the time when they will consider filing for Social Security.

You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your military service, for active duty any time from 1940 through 2001 (the program was done away with in January 2002). Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit credited at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement.

You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must ASK for this benefit to receive it!

Joseph Madagan

Thank you so much, Major Madagan - this is EXCELLENT information to have!

   COOL BEANS - Thanks, Dimples!

From Bob Burns ('58 of VA - I think....) - 11/04/08 - "A Look Back In History-Pre World War II Photos":

Some humor from comedian Steven Wright:

A friend of mine is into Voodoo Acupuncture. You don't have to go. You'll just be walking down the street, and... ooooohhhhhh, that's much better...

After they make styrofoam, what do they ship it in?

All of the people in my building are insane. The guy above me designs synthetic hairballs for ceramic cats. The lady across the hall tried to rob a department store... with a pricing gun...She said, "Give me all of the money in the vault, or I'm marking down everything in the store."

I bought a dog the other day...I named him Stay. It's fun to call him..."Come here, Stay! Come here, Stay!" He went insane. Now he just ignores me.

I bought a self learning record to learn Spanish. I turned it on and went to sleep; the record got stuck. The next day I could only stutter in Spanish.

I didn't get a toy train like the other kids. I got a toy subway instead. You couldn't see anything, but every now and then you'd hear this rumbling noise go by.

I met this wonderful girl at Macy's. She was buying clothes and I was putting Slinkies on the escalator.

I saw a sign at a gas station. It said "help wanted". There was another sign below it that said "self service". So I hired myself. Then I made myself the boss. I gave myself a raise. I paid myself. Then I quit.

I went to this restaurant last night that was set up like a big buffet in the shape of an Ouija board. You'd think about what kind of food you want, and the table would move across the floor to it.

Thanks again, Shari! That man is so goofily funny!

  From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 10/31/08 - "++++ MAXINE +++++" (#3 in a Series of 15):

..... More from the gal everyone loves and admires.....

Whatever pops into her mind, Maxine says. Ordinarily, folks might be offended. But instead, millions of Americans have identified with the crabby, irreverent Maxine, the popular Hallmark character that lambastes everything from holidays to aging, and does not hesitate to tell it like it is - or as she sees it.....

   Thanks, Ruthie!
