NEWPORT NEWS - Virginia "Ginna" Holland Tilley passed away Wednesday, November 1st at age 95.
She was born in Smithfield, Virginia December 6, 1921 and resided in Newport News for over 80 years. Ginna graduated from Newport News High School in 1938 and worked for over a decade as a timekeeper with Newport News Shipbuilding before leaving to be a full-time homemaker.
She was a homebody who enjoyed spending time outdoors and was a talented gardener, planting and caring for her beautiful flowers. She loved spending time with family and her faithful canine companion Mandy. She especially enjoyed vacations at the Outer Banks and taking road trips with her husband, Lee.
Ginna had a wicked sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was a person of faith, who understood that the Lord is her Shepard and, that she, "will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, M. Lee Tilley, and three sisters, Ann Turner, Thelma Lilly, and Helen McCoy.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie Tilley and Vicki Krusie; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Jaclyn; and a special nephew, Timothy Turner.
Following her husband's death, Ginna lived with her loving daughter, Bonnie for twelve years before failing health forced her to enter James River Convalescent Center.
Special thanks to her in-home caregivers, Kathleen and Tiffany, for their loving care and kindness while she was still at home. Also, special thanks to the staff at James River to include many nurses and aides. A very special thank you to Mary, Marquita, Teresa, June, Tammy, Elaine, Ophelia, Kathy and Cheryl. Also the family wishes to thank Anne Roseman for all the cards, visits and gifts over the last few years. Thank you all for being Mom's very special angels.

Abide With Me
Words by Henry F. Lyte, 1847
Music by William H. Monk, 1861
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.
Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.
Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.
I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
