       From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to Chuck O'Rourke and others - 11/01/11, 9:59 AM:

Chuck,

Very sad news, indeed. Please accept my condolences on your family’s loss.

I will tell those in attendance today at the funeral services at First Baptist (for
    Patsy Miller Freeman, Warwick High School Class of 1962).

I will notify the members of my Class of 1964 on behalf of your mother, and I will forward your e-mail to the Class of 1963, who will notify your father’s classmates. His passing will also be duly noted on the NNHS web site.

I know that your dad attended Christopher Newport College, as I recently chaired a reunion for all who attended between 1961 and 1971. I had sent him two mailings, but had received no reply. I will also notify the CNC community.

Thanks for letting me know.

David Spriggs

   Thank you, David.

  From Barbara Fritsche Barnes ('63) of VA - 11/01/11, 2:50 PM:

Carol,

Charles and his wife attend their first Class of 1963 reunion for our 45 celebration.  They were delightful to get to know and visit with and we looked forward to including them in our 50th reunion in 2013.  He had a wonderful wit and was a great conversationalist!

Thanks for the news.

   Thank you, Barbara.  I remember talking with     Charles and    Carolyn as we were touring the old high school during that reunion, and quite enjoyed our conversation.  They made a very charming couple.

Abide With Me

Words by Henry F. Lyte, 1847
Music by William H. Monk, 1861

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
