In Your Eyes

No eyes that have seen beauty ever lose their sight.

- Jean Toomer
(26 Dec 1894 - 30 Mar 1967)

Thine eyes are springs in whose serene
And silent waters heaven is seen.

-
William Cullen Bryant

(03 Nov 1794 - 12 June 1878)

The eyes shout what the lips fear to say.

- William Henry

The eyes say a lot more than anything.

- Mark Wahlberg
(b. 05 June 1971)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

What better to follow smiles than eyes? I started to offer it as a contest to see who could identify all these beautiful eyes, but it would just be too easy; there are far too many clues in the naming of the images, and the first one is a total freebie. If you want to guess who's who, it should be fairly obvious that the gals are on the left and the guys are on the right. Chances are excellent that one of them is YOU!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Your_Eyes_%28Peter_Gabriel_song%29:

"In Your Eyes" is a song by musician Peter Gabriel from his 1986 album So. It reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks and #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986.[1] It was not released as a single in the UK. Gabriel later released an extended version of the song which was nearly 9 minutes in length (as compared to the original 5:29 version that appears on the album). Like many of his songs, "In Your Eyes" contains significant African influences, even more so when performed live (on the So tour) as an extended vocal duet with Youssou N'Dour.

The song was the finale of the Secret World Tour, and is the final track on the Secret World Live album.

In 1993, Gabriel performed the song on Saturday Night Live.[2]

The song was included on the US version of his 2003 compilation Hit, but not on the European or Japanese versions.

In 2005, after 19 years of accumulated sales, the song brought Gabriel his first Gold single, certified in the U.S. by the RIAA.[3]

QUERY:

From Karen Weinstein Witte ('60) of FL - 09/17/16 AND 10/25/16:

Carol,

I sent this in September apparently to an old address. Hope you can get it included in a newsletter soon.

Thanks,
Karen
  Hi Carol,

Hope all is well with you and your family. I am exploring the possibility of having an "in-between-reunion" for the Class of 1960. Next year will be 57 years and I thought a "Heinz 57 Reunion" might be in order.

I'm hoping one of your readers has (or knows someone who has) a beach house at Buckroe Beach that could be rented out for a weekend possibly in May, 2017. I would like at least 3-4 bedrooms.

My idea is to have a place classmates can come and hang out on Friday night as well as Saturday afternoon/evening.

If anyone has information, they can contact me at kwwitte@gmail.com or 941-343-2900. I am in Sarasota.

Thanks so much!

Karen Weinstein Witte

Karen, I'm so sorry!  Problems with email was one of the several "issues" to which I eluded in Monday's announcement.

Today's Newsletter will be included in the third and NEXT announcement, which should only have three or four Newsletters. That way it won't get lost in the shuffle by anyone who sees an announcement with 42 or 30 Newsletters and simply throws up their hands and runs away screaming!

Meanwhile, I know two people who may have an answer for you:

The Head Cheerleader of 1958, Evelyn Fryer Fish of TX has rented a Buckroe cottage several times: Evelyn <EvelynFish@msn.com>.

Sandra Canepa ('56) of VA owned that cottage: Sandra <canepasa@cox.net>.  I don't know whether she still does or not.

I hope they - or someone else - will be able to help you, because your idea sounds delightful!

From J. Harrison ('58) of GA - 10/25/16:

Carol,

Many thanks for all you do.

J. Harrison

You're welcome, J., but thank you - for everything!

From Jerry Blanchard ('62) of VA - 10/25/16:

   Thanks, Jerry!

From Candy Hixson Whitley (Ferguson HS - '68) of VA - 10/25/16:

  INDEED! Thank you, Candy!

From My Daughter-in-Law, Laura Adams Harty (Cardston HS, Alberta - '95) of TX - 10/25/16:

   ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Thank you, Laura!

BONUS CROCHETED EYES PATTERNS:

http://www.freshstitches.com/child-safe-crochet-amigurumi-eyes/ - Stacey's Child-safe Crochet Amigurumi Eyes - "Many amigurumi patterns use ‘safety’ animal eyes. These eyes are called safety eyes, because they have a post on the back of the eye, and a washer which snaps on very securely, such that it’s nearly impossible to remove. These eyes are great to use, because they come in lots of colors, and many people love the look of the finished product.

However, these eyes are not recommended for use on toys that are intended for children below the age of three. If the eye were to become dislodged (for example, slip through the crochet fabric), they would be a choking hazard.

"Two child-safe options that have been used by others are: cutting out felt eyes and sewing them to the crochet fabric, and embroidering eyes on with yarn. These are good options for small amigurumi, but when you’ve crocheted a 7″ cuddly, snuggly teddy bear, a little felt eye just isn’t the right look. So, do what I do… I crochet eyes, and then attach them to the head just like I attach other crocheted body parts."

BONUS EYES RECIPES:
http://www.kidspot.com.au/best-recipes/Kids-cooking+5/Bulls-eye-egg-recipe+3207.htm - Bull's Eye Egg - "This bull's eye egg is sometimes called toad in the hole but whatever you call it, it is a fun and delicious way to get kids to eat more eggs."

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/halloween-eye-of-newt/ - Halloween Eye of Newt - "Bubble, bubble. Toil and trouble. This appetizer is commonly known and used but, I have put my own little twist on this recipe. It is deviled eggs made to look like the eyeballs of a lizard. It a hit with the kids at my Halloween party. Watch them get eaten up at your party!"

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/spicy-black-eyed-peas-recipe/index.html - Spicy Black-Eyed Peas - "In the South, there's a barbecue joint on every corner and each one boasts the best pulled pork sandwiches. The Southern cooks in our test kitchen helped create a version that comes pretty close to that authentic flavor, but with a shortcut or two."

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 10/25/16:

"Mom, you said the baby had your eyes and Daddy's nose, didn't you?"

"Yes, darling."

"Well, you'd better keep an eye on him... he's got Grandpa's teeth now.

In Your Eyes

Written and recorded by Peter Gabriel, 1986
(b. 13 Feb 1950)

Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there’s nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
I will touch this tender wall
Til I know I’m home again
Ooh

In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes

Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes

Love, I don’t like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there’s nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
Oh it’s in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

I want to stand and stare again
Oh, it’s in your eyes.
