10/20/12 - NNHS Newsletter - Whispering Grass

“That we may mark with wonder and chaste dread
At hour of noon, when, with our limbs outspread
Lazily in the whispering grass, we lie
To gaze out fully upon the windy sky-
Far, far away, and kindly, friend with friend
To talk the old, old talk that has no end,
Roaming-without a name-without a chart
The unknown garden of another's heart.”

- C. S. Lewis
(29 Nov 1898 - 22 Nov 1963)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

It's time again for a Golden Oldie, this one from 1940.

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 10/19/12 - "A Halloween Joke":

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married.
One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom.
The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.
After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said to the groom-broom, 'I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!'
'IMPOSSIBLE !' said the groom broom.
Are you ready for this?
Brace yourself; this is going to hurt! ! ! ! ! !

'WE HAVEN'T EVEN SWEPT TOGETHER!'

Oh for goodness sake... Laugh, or at least groan.

Life's too

...little cute............. And clean jokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 10/19/12 - "SCOTCH WITH TWO DROPS OF WATER":

TO SHARE WITH OLD FOLKS YOU MAY KNOW .....

A lady goes to the bar on a cruise ship and orders a Scotch with two drops of water. As the bartender gives her the drink she says,
'I'm on this cruise to celebrate my 80th birthday, and it's today.'

The bartender says, 'Well, since it's your birthday, I'll buy you a drink. In fact, this one is on me.'

As the woman finishes her drink, the woman to her right says, 'I would like to buy you a drink, too.'

The old woman says, 'Thank you. Bartender, I want a Scotch with two drops of water.'

'Coming up' says the bartender.

As she finishes that drink, the man to her left says, 'I would like to buy you one, too.'

The old woman says, 'Thank you. Bartender, I want another Scotch with two drops of water.'

'Coming right up' the bartender says.

As he gives her the drink, he says, 'Ma'am, I'm dying of curiosity. Why the Scotch with only two drops of water?'

The old woman replies, 'Sonny, when you're my age, you've learned how to hold your liquor... Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.'

'OLD' IS WHEN...
Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes... and you're barefoot!

'OLD' IS WHEN...
A sexy babe or hunk catches your fancy... and your pacemaker opens the garage door!

'OLD' IS WHEN...
Going braless pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.

'OLD' IS WHEN....
You don't care where your spouse goes... just as long as you don't have to go along.

'OLD' IS WHEN...
You are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by the police

'OLD' IS WHEN..
'Getting a little action' means you don't need to take any fibre today

'OLD' IS WHEN...
'Getting lucky' means you find your car... in the parking lot.

'OLD' IS WHEN...
An 'all nighter' means not getting up to use the bathroom.

AND
'OLD' IS WHEN.....
You are not sure these are jokes!
Have a good day!

(slightly older in other places!)

   WILDER GIGGLES! Thanks, Dools!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 10/19/12:

Stupid.....But funny...

Things to make you stop and think

1. Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

5. Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

6. Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

8. Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Whispering Grass (Don't Tell the Trees)

Written by Fred Fisher (30 Sept 1875 - 14 Jan 1942) and his daughter Doris Fisher (1915–2003)

Recorded by
The Ink Spots, 1940

Why do you whisper, green grass
Why tell the trees what ain't so?
Whispering grass
The trees don't have to know
Why tell them all your secrets
Who kissed there long ago?
Whispering grass
The trees don't need to know
Now don't you tell it to the breeze
'
Cause she will tell it to the trees
And everyone will know
Because you told them once before
Yes, you told them once before
It's no secret anymore
Why tell them all the old things
They're buried under the snow
Whispering grass don't tell the trees
'
Cause the trees don't need to know
Why tell them all your secrets
Who kissed there long ago?
Whispering grass
The trees don't need to know
Now don't you tell it to the breeze
'
Cause she will run and tell it to the trees
And everyone will know
'Cause you told them once before
Yes, you told them once before
That's no, no secret anymore
Why tell them all the old things
They're buried under the snow
Whispering grass don't tell the trees
'Cause the trees don't need to know
