“For now we see through a glass, darkly...”
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Today is White Cane Safety Day, a day which receives too little recognition, so by all means, do your homework.

|Remembering Our Babies: This special day of
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance is October 15th of every year.
This site was created to provide support, education, and awareness for
those who are suffering or may know someone who suffered a miscarriage,
an ectopic pregnancy, a still birth, or the loss of an infant.
My first and last pregnancies ended in miscarriage, plus I had two more sandwiched between the births of my seven children. After all these years I continue to mourn all four losses.

|As I wrote to the Daily
Press, I just celebrated my 99th birthday. Are there any other known
survivors of the NNHS Class of '36? Perhaps there are descendants of

I would like to hear from anyone with connections to this class.

From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 10/14/15:
|“In ancient Greece,
runners competed in a relay race called a lampadedromia.1 In the race,
runners held a torch in their hand and passed it on to the next runner
until the final member of the team crossed the finish line. The prize
wasn’t awarded to the team that ran fastest—it was awarded to the first
team to reach the finish line with its torch still lit. There is a
profound lesson here, one taught by prophets ancient and modern: while
it is important to start the race, it is even more important that we
finish with our torch still lit.”
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Thanks so much, Susan!
From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 10/15/17:

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA -

You are in luck. One of the few Beacon/Anchor issues I have is
the June 1936...
... Well, that didn’t take so long to do.
WOWZERONI! Thank you so very much, David! It may not have been so difficult for you, but that much scanning would have made me even more bonkers than I already am.
Another image that popped right out at me on page 15 was that of Thomas N. Downing (01 Feb 1919 - 23 Oct 2001). There were several others as well, but I'll save them for another Newsletter.

pumpkin spice and mixes it with caramel and cream cheese to make the
ultimate dessert for fall.
OOH! Thank you, Brenda!
