10/01/13 - NNHS Newsletter - Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:”

- Matthew 6: 28

“Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not;
and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

- Luke 12: 27

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I first heard this song in 1952 when I was five years old.  I remember being quite enchanted by the loveliness of it all, but totally puzzled.  Wasn't love supposed to be a happy thing?  How could it possibly ever be sad?  Ah, childhood!

From My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '90) of AL - 09/26/13 - "Doctor implements":

Mom,

Saw this at the hospital in Dothan and it reminded me of        your dad's (the late Robert Buckley - John Marshall HS - '25) (19 Oct 1907 - 25 Apr 1960) doctor items. Thought you'd like to see it... With love

Brent

WOWZERS! These are indeed very much like my daddy's medical implements - especially the reflex hammer, except that his is still in pristine condition with no tarnish on the handle.

   Thanks so much, Brent!

From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 09/30/12 - "Update about 'Stop changes to Disney World and Disneyland's Guest Assistance Card Program' on Change.org":

Please send a message to Disney if you or any one in your family or friends has a problem that needs special treatment. I have trouble walking for long distances, as does my sister, Kathy. My granddaughter, Maddi, has autism and could never go to a park where she would have to stand in a long line. She would freak out and become uncontrollable. Let's ask that they not punish those with needs because of a few dummies who abuse the system. One lady brags she is a cheat and a liar and they want to do this.

Our petition has reached over 4,000 signatures. Walt Disney Company has reached out to me today to schedule a conference to get input and OUR opinion on the changes. I say OUR because I am asking you ALL to send me your concern points as to why this system will NOT work for your SN child or adult family member. I plan on staying on this conference call as long as possible to be yet another voice for each and every one of you on this matter.

I also URGE you all to send a press release to your local newspapers and news stations regarding this issue and this petition we all stand by. This has received media attention across the US and we can do even better if we band together and contact any media outlets in our areas!

Also I suggest you voice your concerns DIRECTLY one by one to Disney Guest Relations at wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com. They need to be overwhelmed and hear each and every one of us individually! They need to see how many of us this truly effects!

Thank you all for your support. We got Walt Disney Company to see we are fighting back .. now let's let our voices be heard LOUD AND CLEAR and stop these changes, or to make them actually work for our families!

Rachael Baldassarra

YOWZERONI! Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Ruthie!

Carol:

A good friend sent this to me and I hope you will pass this on as I think we all can benefit from it; it says a lot about life and things we need to remember....

Thanks...

If you will take the time to read these. I promise you'll come away with an enlightened perspective. The subjects covered affect us all on a daily basis:

They're written by (dozens of different people - age 5 to 95) and published in H. Jackson Brown's 1995 book, Live and Learn and Pass It On, Volume II.

Enjoy.......

I've  learned
..... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I've learned
.... That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned
.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've  learned
.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful  feelings in the world.

I've learned
..... That being kind is more important than being right

I've  learned
.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've learned
.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

I've learned
.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned
.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned
.... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me  as an adult.

I've learned
.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned
.... That we should be glad God doesn't give  us everything we ask for.

I've  learned
.... That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned
.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've  learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned
.... That to ignore the facts does not change  the facts.

I've learned
.... That when you plan to  get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue  to hurt you.

I've learned
.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned
.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter  than I am.

I've learned
.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've  learned
.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned
... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned
.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I've  learned
.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned
.... That I wish I could have told my Mom  that I love her one more time before she passed away.

I've learned
.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned
.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned
.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.

I've  learned
.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned
.... That the less time I have to work with,  the more things I get done.

   Thanks so much, Wayne!

Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo

Music by Bronisław Kaper
(05 Feb 1902 – 26 Apr 1983)

Words by Helen Deutsch
(21 Mar 1906 - 15 Mar 1992), 1952

On every tree there sits a bird,
Singing a song of love.
On every tree there sits a bird,
And everyone I've ever heard
Breaks my heart with all the words,
Singing a song of love.

A song of love is a sad song, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo.
A song of love is a song of woe;
Don't ask me how I know.
A song of love is a sad song,
For I have loved and it's so.
I sit at the window and watch the rain, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo,
Tomorrow I'll probably love again, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo.

A song of love is a sad song, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo.
A song of love is a song of woe;
Don't ask me how I know.
A song of love is a sad song,
For I have loved and it's so.
I sit at the window and watch the rain, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo,
Tomorrow I'll probably love again, Hi-Lili----Hi-Lili----Hi-Lo.
