“I have…learned that one cannot demand love and respect or require that the bonds of friendship and appreciation be extended as an unearned right. These blessings must be earned. They come from personal merit. Sincere concern for others, selfless service, and worthy example qualify one for such respect.”

- Richard G. Scott
(07 Nov 1928 -
22 Sept 2015)

From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 09/29/17:

   Thank you, Joan!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 09/28/18 - "Just a little reminder, as our nights are getting cooler.":

https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education/By-topic/Smoke-alarms

Don't forget to check or change the batteries,in your smoke alarms.
In a couple of months it will be 6 years since I lost a dear friend, to a house fire.
It was found that her smoke alarm had a dead battery.

Scared me enough, that when one of mine beeped repeatedly I let it go until someone with the correct knowledge could assist. It was part of a whole house system, and disconnecting one would have disconnected all of them. As annoying as it was, I knew it was better to deal with the sound for a short duration. In one house I mortgaged, there was a spontaneous fire from a short in an electrical box in the garage. In that case it put itself out, but the signs were telling and it could have easily spread. One just never knows what can spark a fire, so it's best to do all in our power to be proactive, as far as preventing and alerting.

YOWZERONI! Thank you so much for this important reminder, Shari!

From Linda DeShazo Hatchett ('65) of VA - 09/28/18:

BRILLIANT! Thank you, Linda - AND Dr. Seuss!

  From Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally ('65 / '68) of VA - 09/28/18:

   Thank you, Elizabeth!

 From Domi O'Brien ('64) of NH - 09/28/18:

   Thanks, Domi!

Stay As Sweet As You Are

Written by Mack Gordon

Harry Revel, 1934

Stay as sweet as you are,
Don't let a thing
Ever change you.
Stay as sweet as you are,
Don't let a soul
Rearrange you.

Don't ever lose
All the charm you possess,
Your loveliness, darling,
The way you say "yes".

Stay as sweet as you are
Discreet as you are,
You're divine, dear.
Stay as grand as you are,
And as you are,
Tell me that you're mine, dear.

Young and gay or old and gray,
Near to me or afar,
Night and day I pray
That you'll always stay
As sweet as you are.

(Interlude)

Young and gay or old and gray,
Near to me or afar,
Night and day I pray
That you'll always stay
As sweet as you are.
