Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   We have more sad news to report today.   Jerry Hedgepeth, Class of 1955, passed away in Williamsburg on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

                Jerry Hedgepeth
 
      WILLIAMSBURG - Jerry Bryan Hedgepeth died on September 20, 2018 in Williamsburg, VA.

He was born in Newport News, VA and graduated from Newport News High School.

After graduating, he joined the Army and served his country in Korea and Japan. Upon his return, he attended the College of William and Mary.

In 1963, Jerry began his career as a real estate broker. As president of the Newport News/Hampton Board of Realtors, he was instrumental in bringing the Multiple Listing Service to the Peninsula. Jerry also served as a member on the Virginia Real Estate Board.

After his retirement in 1987, he became a full-time volunteer for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, serving as a guide at Wetherburn's Tavern, Bruton Heights, The Brush-Everard House, The Millwork Shop, and Electronic Field Trips. Working the Bits and Bridles Tour was his favorite. In 2018, Jerry received his 20-year volunteer pin.

Jerry contributed endless volunteer hours to Colonial Williamsburg, as well as strong financial support. He always said, "The Foundation teaches our youth about their history."

Liz, Mary Ann and I were deeply saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. We will miss our conversations with him in front of your house. He touched many lives and will be missed. We will be checking with you to see if we can do anything.

 I am so very sad to hear that Jerry has passed away. I worked with him from time to time as he led the CW Behind the Scenes tours at BHS. We also worked together one year for the CW Teacher Institute. Jerry is a dear soul and will be greatly missed. So sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. We've known Jerry and Liz for 20 years, through CW. He was a wonderful tour guide and had a wealth of information about the historic area. He was a treasure. Our thoughts are with Liz and the family.
