1.    From Bobby Sprouse ('66) of CO - 06/22/12 (sic) - "photo (sort of) of        Mr. Wilson":

I posted this Obama style poster of Jim Wilson on the NNHS Facebook page.

Someone commented that he would enjoy seeing it and I thought your website might be the best vehicle to accomplish that.

You're welcome to use this if you think it's appropriate.

Bobby Sprouse
Class of 66

WOWZERS! Thanks for thinking of us, Bobby! I'm not sure if Mr. Wilson will see the image or not, as last I heard (five years ago) he was not online, but the rest of us can certainly enjoy it!  I've added it to his Teacher page:

From Bill Lee (Warwick HS - '54) of NC - 09/28/12, 7:02 AM - "LIbertys' Ladies":

Your recent mention of the launching of the first Liberty ship - the SS PATRICK HENRY in 1941 - prompted me to send you the attached.

While it is 'built' around experiences at a WW II emergency shipyard in Georgia, it just as well could have been written about accomplishments at the Newport News Shipbuilding subsidiary in Wilmington, NC between 1941 and 1946.

How I came to write it is discussed in the story's postscript.

Bill Lee

WOWZERONI! Thank you so much for sharing this, Bill!

From Roberta Hilsdon ('70) of GA - 09/28/12, 10:35 AM:

Could you please include the weblink on these emails?  Thanks.

Thanks, Roberta! Yes, that would certainly be easier for all of us, and beginning with the next mailing, I'm going to go back to that route. The change occurred because while my computer and I were MIA for four months, I apparently lost my access to everyone! When I returned, spam filters saw the provided links and decided that's what I was.

I think, Roberta, that you probably didn't experience any problems with this - and that's a good thing!  For others who may have, this is an easy fix six ways from Tuesday, as   Pete Hoyle ('60 - of VA) and   Al Simmms ('60 - of VA) have repeatedly pointed out.

You can either add me into your address book (making me a "good guy"), or you can relax your computer's spam filters back to "Normal" limits.

The next mailing should tell us what's happening!

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 09/28/12, 1:54 PM - "Origin of TYPHOON":

A question arose on Facebook about when NNHS students became Typhoon. Seems that I read the explanation on the site or in an e-mail form some old timer.

Do you remember the details?

Well, Captain, I can barely remember my own name these days...   I would have put even money on    Fred Field (June '45) of CA as being the source of that knowledge, but nowhere can I find any evidence to prove that - nor can I locate the discussion.  I own copies of the February 1922 and the June 1923 Beacon yearbooks, and I just reread them and found no mention of the term "Typhoon" within their pages.  The yearbooks from the forties, though, abound with the term.

Let's ask the class. Does anyone know the answer to this?

   "Anyone? Anyone?"

   Thank you, David!

From My Friend, Bill, of UT - 09/28/12:

     BOY, HOWDY! Thanks, Bill!

From - 07/28/12:

A man found a magic genie who would grant him one wish.

The man said to the genie,” I wish that I had a non-stop bridge from here to Hawaii."

The genie said,” I’m sorry, but that's going to be very hard. Do you have another wish?"

The man answered, "Of course! I want the power to understand all women."

The genie thought for a minute. He replied, "How many platforms did you want on that bridge?"

Stay As Sweet As You Are

Written by Mack Gordon

Harry Revel, 1934
(21 Dec 1905 – 03 Nov 1958)

Stay as sweet as you are,
Don't let a thing
Ever change you.
Stay as sweet as you are,
Don't let a soul
Rearrange you.

Don't ever lose
All the charm you possess,
Your loveliness, darling,
The way you say "yes".

Stay as sweet as you are
Discreet as you are,
You're divine, dear.
Stay as grand as you are,
And as you are,
Tell me that you're mine, dear.

Young and gay or old and gray,
Near to me or afar,
Night and day I pray
That you'll always stay
As sweet as you are.

Young and gay or old and gray,
Near to me or afar,
Night and day I pray
That you'll always stay
As sweet as you are.
