Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   There is more sad news today. Blanche Segaloff Rabinowitz, mother of Alec Rabinowitz of PA, Arthur Rabinowitz of VA, and Paul Rabinowitz of Northern VA, and of the late David Rabinowitz, passed away in Newport News on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 89.

   May her memory be for a blessing always.

NEWPORT NEWS - Blanche Segaloff Rabinowitz, 89, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Bess and Charles Segaloff. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she grew up. Her family later moved to Newport News, when her father bought LaVogue.

She attended George Washington University and Corcoran College of Art. Blanche acted in Summer Theatre with the Wedgwood and Barksdale Theatres. She was the 1984 winner of the Howard Scammon Drama Prize. She started the theater department at Hampton Roads Academy, where she taught for nine years. Blanche also did children's theater in Yorktown, known as the Mad Hatter's Theatre during the summer. Active in Peninsula Community Theatre for many years, she is well remembered for her portrayal of the title role in "Auntie Mame."

Blanche loved painting and theatre all her life.

Preceding her in death, were her husband, Larry and son, David.

Survivors include three sons, Alec, of Pocono Lakes, Pa., Arthur, of Norfolk, and Paul, of Alexandria; and four grandchildren, Noah, Charles, Andrew and Nadja.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula. Memorial contributions may be made to WHRO, 5200 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23508, or to a charity of your choice.

To the families and friends of Blanche Segaloff Rabinowitz. Today, I am sending my deepest condolences to the families. We all lose love ones in death and it's a very difficult time. Please allow God to strengthen you in your grief. He is a God of great comfort and peace.

Virginia will always be my home but now I live in Harrisburg, PA.
