09/27/10 - NNHS Newsletter - Cherish

“Cherish all your happy moments; they
make a fine cushion for old age.”

Booth Tarkington
(29 July 1869 - 19 May 1946)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I thought certainly that we had used this lovely old song at least five years ago, but I could find no indication that we had.

BONUS #1 - - Cherish - The Association, 1966

BONUS #2 - - Cherish - The Association, 1983

"Cherish" is a pop song written by Terry Kirkman and recorded by The Association. Released in 1966, the song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in September of that year and remained in the top position for three weeks. In Canada, the song also reached number one.

Session musician Doug Rhodes, also member of The Music Machine, played the Celesta on the recording...

This is my daughter Laura's dog in a contest to be on the cover of a bag of dog food.

Vote every day for Grace. Thanks.

Oh, Laura is your daughter, Norris! Well, that makes it all the more important! When I tried to vote for Grace again today, I noticed the site was trying to pull a switcheroo on me. It tried to persuade me to vote for the wrong Grace!  OH, NO!

Grace is #1 in pet of the month:

and #3 in pet of the year:

  WOWZERONI!!! That's fabulous, Norris!

Vote early, vote often (or at least cast your allotted daily vote) - and don't drop the ball now!

    From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 09/26/10 - "MCAS REUNION 9-22-10 017 (7)":

  Hi, Carol:

Just checking to see if you like photos of Old Soldiers, who also served in the Marine Corps.

Just cannot get the Corps out of your blood, so back to Parris Island last week to attend a Reunion.

Seven Platoons of young recruits now bear the name Marine.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL
SQUEAL!!! You already know the answer to that one, Joe! I've been hopelessly enamored of Marines in dress blues since I was two years and four months old!

Thanks so much, Adonis; I know you had a marvelous time - and you are looking good!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA -
09/26/10 - " ~ Friday ~":
Two little kids are in a hospital, lying on stretchers next to each other outside the operating room.

The first kid leans over and asks, "What are you in here for?"

The second kid says, "I'm in here to get my tonsils out and I'm a little nervous."

The first kid says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up they give you lots of Jello and ice cream. It's a breeze."

The second kid then asks, "What are you here for?"

The first kid says, "A circumcision."

"Whoa!" the second kid replies. "Good luck buddy. I had that done when I was born. Couldn't walk for a year."

All they have

Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

Did You Know???

The largest animal that ever lived is also currently living -- the blue whale.

The world consumes 2 quarts (approx. 2 liters) of oil per person per day.

If Earth was the size of a basketball, the moon would be the size of a tennis ball and they'd be 25 feet apart.

For every 100 girls born in China, 119 boys are born.

Of all the people in history that have reached 65 years of age, half of them are living right now.

If Earth's life was compressed into one year, then humans would have been around for only 2 seconds.

The Middle East's population almost tripled over the last 30 years.

"The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment."

Thanks, Shari! Welcome back! I'm glad we finally found a way to circumvent the Evil Spam Filters who were blocking our emails to each other!

From My Friend, Judy Bundy Bowermaster (Litchfield HS, IL - '59) of IL - 09/14/10 - "Pink Heart" (#10 in a Series of 12):

Love the babies! Thanks! Give this heart to everyone you DON'T want to lose in 2010 including me.

"Be kinder than necessary because everyone
you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

My mind is like a functions only when open.

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong. Sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. I don't want to let that happen so I'm gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you.  Send it to some balloons that you think have flown away forever. You may be surprised to see it return. Send this heart to everybody you like.

Send this heart to everybody that has touched your life in a positive way. Thank you for being in my life!!!

   Thanks so much, Judy!

Written by Terry Kirkman (b. 12 Dec 1939)

Recorded by The Association, 1966

Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could
Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you

Oh I'm beginning to think that man has never found
The words that could make you want me
That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound
That could make you hear, make you see
That you are drivin' me out of my mind

Oh I could say I need you but then you'd realize
That I want you just like a thousand other guys
Who'd say they loved you With all the rest of their lies
When all they wanted was to touch your face, your hands
And gaze into your eyes

Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what
Seems to be the life that you could
Cherish as much as I do yours

Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could
Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you

And I do cherish you
And I do cherish you

Cherish is the word
