This Land Is Mine

I would not change my native land,
for rich Peru with all her gold.

Isaac Watts
(17 July 1674 - 25 Nov 1748)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's theme is being rerun from exactly three years ago today:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/09-27-05-NNHS-This-Land-Is-Mine.html

Obviously, as I'm leaving for the Sacred Soil at 7:30 this morning, I have no time whatsoever to devote to this - so there'll just be a couple of quick notes, and we'll save the intricate offerings for later.

Hi Carol,

I want to see if any baseball fans can tell me if i have something worth anything. I have a baseball that I bought a long time ago in a plastic cube. It's an official Rawlings baseball for world series 1994. Well, that was the year they had the baseball strike, but the ball was still printed. Is it worth anything now? if anyone knows.....

  From Kathy Cooper ('70) of VA - 09/26/08 - "RE:   09/25/08 -   Junior Mays - Class of 1970":

Carol, just want to say thanks for the nice article about my cousin.  Thanks to you, many of his friends will now know he has passed away.  Without this web site, very few would know since he did not live in Newport News.  You did a great job.

Thanks again,

Kathy

   It was my honor, Kathy!

From Johnnie Bateman ('70) of VA - 09/26/08 - "Politics":

Carol,

As you know the first debate is tonight. I want to applaud you for keeping the political viewpoints, etc. off your page. I have seen some pretty bad stuff out there on both sides and have seen some pretty harsh e-mails etc. This is not the first election that has caused differences and won't be the last...

Just as we honor each others religious beliefs, we should honor each others political choices and discussions on these matters can get very personal.

Again feel free to publish, edit, or not publish as you feel. I just don't like seeing friends getting hurt over this...

Again, Thank You for keeping the political news out of the greatest web page of all times! NNHS65 !!!

Very Respectfully,
Johnnie

Thank you for understanding  - and supporting - my position, Johnnie! While we're here to educate and entertain on a wide variety of subjects, politics doesn't seem to fit.  Besides, we'd soon have room for nothing else!

 Exodus

Music written for 1960 film "Exodus" by Ernest Gold, who won an Oscar for the score.
Words added in 1961 by Pat Boone as "This Land Is Mine."

 Various versions charted in 1961 by Ferrante and Teicher (#2);
Mantovani (#31); Eddie Harris (jazz rendition, #36);
Pat Boone (#64); and Edith Piaf (#116).

This land is mine,
God gave this land to me,
This brave and ancient land to me.
And when the morning sun reveals her hills and plains,
Then I see a land where children can run free.

So take my hand and walk this land with me
And walk this lovely land with me.
Though I am just a man,
When you are by my side,
With the help of God, I know I can be strong.

This land is mine,
God gave this land to me,
This brave and ancient land to me.
And when the morning sun reveals her hills and plains,
Then I see a land where children can run free.

So take my hand and walk this land with me
And walk this golden land with me.
Though I am just a man,
When you are by my side,
With the help of God, I know I can be strong.

To make this land our home.
If I must fight, Ill fight to make this land our own
Until I die this land is mine!
