09/25/14 - NNHS Newsletter - Bubba Goss

Theria Roland Goss, Jr.
(1943 - 23 Sept 2014)

Hampton High School Class of @ 1961

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this Thursday morning.        Bubba Goss, Hampton HS Class of @ 1961, husband of   Carolyn Webb Goss ('65) of VA, passed away in Virginia Beach on Tuesday, March 23, 2014 at the age of 71. He was the brother-in-law of    Nancy Webb El-Mahdi ('69).

From the Daily Press - 09/25/14:

                  Theria "Bub" R. Goss, Jr.

VIRGINIA BEACH - 2 Timothy 4:7 - I have fought a good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. I am going Home.

We asked The Lord to heal him or take him Home. And The Lord said 'Come on Home, Bubba. I have this mansion for you. I know you will be pleased. Stand Tall and walk thru The Gate.' So, on the evening of September 23, 2014, Theria Roland Goss, Jr., age 71, did just that. He stood tall, as he had not done in 13 years.

Bubba, as he was affectionately known, was born in the old Buxton Hospital in Newport News in 1943. He attended Hampton High School and worked for Pomoco until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church and oh, so wanted to get well enough to attend Sunday services again.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Webb Goss, (son) David G. Goss (Deniz), (daughter) Donna Lynn Balgavy (Paul). He was known as 'Papa' to four precious grandsons - Gavin David, Rylan William, Noah Paul, and Adam Paul. Oh, they were the Love of his Life. Absolutely nothing bought him more joy than to be with 'the boys'! He is also survived by his sister, Linda Dean Staton of Hampton.

Bubba Goss

Services will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home (Newport News) at 10 o'clock in the morning, Saturday, September 27th. Reverend Linsay Poteat officiating. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Looking good, Dad! Enjoy the harp lessons, the unlimited golf on courses designed for lefties, the steak and seafood dinners, and watching Yankees baseball and Redskins football, from the stars. Watch over us from above. We love you sooo much, and even though we miss you already, we give thanks to God that he's welcomed you Home! :-)

Mr. Goss was always one of my favorite people when I was growing up. As a good friend of Donna's since elementary school, I spent many a night at their house. I loved being around the entire Goss family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

   Dad and Papa,

Walking, skipping, running, dancing....that's what I envision you doing up above. Oh... and eating too. Say hi to everyone up there, that is until I get there and can do it myself one day. We miss and love you very much. Noah knows Papa is "up in heaven with God." Thanks so much for being a great dad. REALLY. We miss and love you so much. I know you will be watching from above. Dear Carolyn, Donna, and DG - I was very sad to hear the news about Bub. The impression he made was one that stays with me even today - whether talking about walking the Masters practice rounds, bailing us out of trouble, or his wry sense of humor when he was needling us about something (anything). You all were a second family to me and will always have a cherished place in my heart. I'm sorry for the pain you must be dealing with now, but know, too, that he is in a better, blessed place. All our best - Chris (& Mandy, Henry, and Reese)

It is with great sorrow that I hear about my friend Bubba, as we go back to the Army Reserves in Hampton. There was never a more striking troop than Bubba in his starched tailored uniform with the spit-shined combat boots. He set the goal for the rest of the company. I will never forget the time we spent together. He was one fine person and will be greatly missed by all.

Blessed Assurance

Lyrics by Fanny J. Crosby (24 Mar 1820 - 12 Feb 1915). 1873
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp (09 Mar1839 - 10 July1908), 1873

Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
