09/23/14 - NNHS Newsletter - I'm a Fool to Want You

“You know you are in love when you see the world in her eyes,
and her eyes everywhere in the world.”

David Levesque

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Oh, guess what? It's Frank again!

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_ObUNriYZM - I'm a Fool to Want You - Frank Sinatra

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_a_Fool_to_Want_You:

"I'm a Fool to Want You" is a 1951 song composed by Frank Sinatra, Jack Wolf, and Joel Herron.[1] Frank Sinatra released the song as a Columbia single. The ballad is a pop and jazz standard.

Frank Sinatra first recorded the song with the Ray Charles Singers on March 27, 1951 in an arrangement by Axel Stordahl in New York. It was the second song recorded at the sessions which began with "I Whistle a Happy Tune" and ended with "Love Me". He recorded a second version at the Capitol Tower in Hollywood on May 1, 1957, arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins, which was released in 1957 on the album Where Are You?. This album was Sinatra’s first recording for Capitol Records and his first stereo recording. Capitol also released the song as part of an EP, EAP-2-855, EBFI-855.

The song was released as a Columbia Records 10" 78 B side single in 1951 backed with "Mama Will Bark" (with Dagmar) as #39425, Matrix # CO-45185-1. The single reached #14 on the Billboard pop singles chart in a 7 week chart run beginning in June and #27 on Cashbox the same month in a 5 week chart run.[2] "Mama Will Bark" reached #21. The song was re-released in 1954 as an A side Columbia single with "If I Forget You" as the B side. Columbia also released the song as part of an EP, 2559, which also featured "I Should Care", "I Could Write A Book", and "If You Are But A Dream".

The Columbia recording appeared on the 1966 album Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits: The Early Years, Volume Two. The song also appeared on the 1986 4-disc collection The Voice: Frank Sinatra, the Columbia Years (1943–1952) and the 1993 box-set album The Columbia Years 1943-1952: The Complete Recordings. The song also appeared on Frank Sinatra: The Best of the Columbia Years: 1943-1952 in 1995 and Frank Sinatra Sings His Greatest Hits in 1997 both on Columbia. In 2003, the song was included on the Sony collection The Essential Sinatra: The Columbia Years.

The song was featured on the 1992 Sinatra: Soundtrack to the CBS Mini-Series released on Reprise Records...

PRAYER UPDATE:

From the Head Cheerleader of 1965, Pam Smith Arnold of CA - 09/22/14, 7:44 PM:

Cuz' Carol,

About 9 months ago, I asked for prayers for my eldest son,
Peter (Tomczyk), who deployed to Afghanistan. I am thrilled to announce that he is back in the country, outprocessing all his soldiers at Ft. Hood and will probably be returning to the arms of his loving wife, Sarah, on Wednesday or Thursday.

I would like to thank everyone who offered a prayer of safety and blessings for Peter. While we can all use all the prayers we can get (I know I can!), I wanted to let everyone know my and Peter's good news and say, again, thanks so much.

Typhoon Blessings to you all,
Pam Smith Arnold '65

WHOO-HOO! That is fabulous news indeed, Cousin Pam! Having had a beloved son deployed to "the lands dark and dusty" for a year, I am somewhat aware of the tremendous feeling of relief you are experiencing at this moment! Congratulations all around!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 09/22/14:

A young child walked up to her mother and stared at her hair. As Mother scrubbed on the dishes, the girl cleared her throat and sweetly asked; "Why do you have some grey strands in your hair?"

The mother paused and looked at her daughter. "Every time you disobey, I get one strand of grey hair. If you want me to stay pretty, you'd better obey."

The mother quickly returned to her task of washing dishes. The little girl stood there thinking. She cleared her throat again.

"Mother?" she sweetly asked again.

"Yes?" her mother replied.

"Why is Grandma's hair all grey?"

I'm a Fool to Want You

Composed by Frank Sinatra, Jack Wolf, and Joel Herron, 1951

I'm a fool to want you
I'm a fool to want you
To want a love that can't be true
A love that's there for others too

I'm a fool to hold you
Such a fool to hold you
To seek a kiss not mine alone
To share a kiss that Devil has known

Time and time again I said I'd leave you
Time and time again I went away
But then would come the time when I would need you
And once again these words I had to say

Take me back, I love you
Pity me, I need you
I know it's wrong, it must be wrong
But right or wrong I can't get along

Without you
