09/22/15 - NNHS Newsletter - Autumn Leaves

“No Spring nor Summer Beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one Autumnal face.”

John Donne
(21 Jan 1572 - 31 Mar 1631)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

At 4:21 AM EDT tomorrow, Fall will officially begin. And because this is one of my favorite songs, it seems to repeat nearly every year:

BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMN3uk7zeBA - Autumn Leaves - Frank Sinatra

HEALTH ALERT:

While still caring for her husband,   Don (John Marshall HS - '64) of VA, who is recovering from esophageal cancer,        my cousin, Cheryl White Wilson (James Blair HS / John Marshall HS - '64) of VA fell down her gorgeous staircase on 09/11. While she blessedly didn't break her hip, she is nevertheless still in a great deal of pain, not to mention having a great deal of difficulty keeping up with her necessary daily routines, especially grocery shopping. Your prayers for them are requested.

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 09/21/15:

A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation.

He wrote, "I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?"

An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who said, "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too."

 Autumn Leaves

Music by Joseph Kosma, 1945
(22 Oct 1905 – 07 Aug 1969)

French lyrics by
Jacques Prévert, 1945
(04 Feb 1900 - 11 Apr 1977)

English lyrics by
Johnny Mercer, 1947
(18 Nov 1909 – 25 June 1976)

The falling leaves drift by the window,
The autumn leaves of red and gold.
I see your lips, the summer kisses,
The sun-burned hands I used to hold.

Since you went away the days grow long,
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song,
But I miss you most of all, my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.
