Bud Jones
(d. 17 Sept 2006)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Sad news has arrived once more.   Bud Jones passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2006.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Calvary Baptist Church in Newport News at 6:00 PM.

From Barbara Brewer ('69) of VA - 09/18/06:

..... My sister called me this evening and told me that Bud Jones had passed away.  He was a good friend of    Charlie Vellines ('65), and I assume must have attended one of the high schools in the area, maybe even good old NNHS......

Thank you, Barbara.  I'm so sorry to hear this.

From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of VA - 09/20/06 - "Bud Jones":

Hi, Carol,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news again, but     Richie (Allen - '66 - of VA) asked that I forward the following information.  A good friend of ours, Bud Jones, passed away Sunday night after a long battle with cancer.  He lived in North End, but dropped out of school at an early age.  He was friends with a lot of NNHS students, and according to Richie, "hung out" at     Charlie Vellines' ('65) house with him.  As there won't be a funeral nor will there be a notice in the paper,  we wanted to get the word out as soon as possible about the visitation tomorrow night.

I'm also attaching a picture of Bud and Richie that was taken in July by my brother    (Johnnie Bateman - '68 - of VA)   Bud was a house painter by trade and due to his illness, was unable to work.  He'd been customizing fishing rods to try to make some extra money.  This is one that Richie asked him to do in Virginia Tech colors for him.

Thank you for letting me know, Sandi.  Such sad news......

..... Bud requested that no services be held on his behalf   he has been cremated .  The family will be at Calvary Baptist Church on the corner of Huntington Avenue and 47th Street in Newport News tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:00 PM .  If you know anyone that may want to see the family and talk .... with me about Bud, tell them to come on out and pass the word   there will be no notice in the paper;  it's all word of mouth .   Soooo    polish up your best Bud stories and ya'll get spreadin' the word .

See ya tomorrow to be followed by an O'Douls at Mike's  !!

        PASS IT ON !!!

        Richie Allen

Thank you, for spreading the news, Richie.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to Bud's family and friends at this time.

Y'all take good care of each other!  TYPHOONS FOREVER!

                          Love to all, Carol

Morning Has Broken

Words: Eleanor Farjeon
Music: Traditional Gaelic

1. Morning has broken like the first morning;
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word!

2. Sweet the rain's new fall sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

3. Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation; praise ev'ry morning,
God's recreation of the new day!
