Palisades Park

I look just like the girls next door... if you happen
to live next door to an amusement park.”

- Dolly Parton
(b. 19 Jan 1946)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's Newsletter theme was first used here exactly five years ago today:

BONUS #1 - - Palisades Park - Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon, 1962

BONUS #2 - - Palisades Park - Jan and Dean

BONUS #3 -

BONUS #4 -

"Palisades Park" is a song written by Chuck Barris and recorded by Freddy Cannon.

A tribute to New Jersey's Palisades Amusement Park, the song is an up-tempo tune led by a distinctive organ part. It also incorporates amusement park sound effects.

Released by Swan Records as a B-side to "June, July and August", "Palisades Park" broke in when a Flint, Michigan radio DJ played it by mistake. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 12 March 1962, the biggest hit of Cannon's career.[1]

From My Sister, Eleanor Buckley Nowitzky ('59) of NC - 09/13/10, 9:19 AM - "Reason, Season, or Lifetime":

It may sound ridiculous, but it is right on time.

We believe that something is about to happen.

Angels exist, only sometimes they haven't got wings and we call them Friends; you are one of them.

Something wonderful is about to happen to you and your friends.
Guardian Angel

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Thank you, Eleanor! See you soon!

From Charles Schneider ('60) of TX - 09/15/10 - "US Navy's New Pirate Catcher":

Don't know if you've seen this yet. Very impressive!

Charles Schneider (60)

WOWZERONI! No, Charles, I had not seen this! In fact, these ships look like nothing else I've ever seen! Thank you so much!

From My Friend, Judy Bundy Bowermaster (Litchfield HS, IL - '59) of IL - 09/14/10 - "Pink Heart" (#1 in a Series of 12):

Love the babies! Thanks! Give this heart to everyone you DON'T want to lose in 2010 including me.

"Be kinder than necessary because everyone
you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

A sharp tongue can cut my own throat.

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong. Sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. I don't want to let that happen so I'm gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you.  Send it to some balloons that you think have flown away forever. You may be surprised to see it return. Send this heart to everybody you like.

Send this heart to everybody that has touched your life in a positive way. Thank you for being in my life!!!

   Thanks so much, Judy!

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) - 09/10/10 - "~Old Timers~ (#5 of 10)":

Only one a day.

Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital.

After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.

On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.

'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.'

     Thanks, Norris!

Palisades Park

Written by Chuck Barris (b. 03 June 1929), who later created and starred in TV's The Gong Show

Recorded by Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon (b. 03 Dec 1939), 1962

Last night I took a walk after dark
A swingin' place called Palisades Park
To have some fun and see what I could see
That's where the girls are
I took a ride on a shoot-the-chute
That girl I sat beside was awful cute
And after while she was holdin' hands with me
My heart was flyin' up like a rocket ship
Down like a roller coaster
Back like a loop-the-loop
And around like a merry-go-round
We ate and ate at a hot dog stand
We danced around to a rockin' band
And when I could, I gave that girl a hug
In the tunnel of love
You'll never know how great a kiss can feel
When you stop at the top of a Ferris wheel
When I fell in love down at Palisades Park
We ate and ate at a hot dog stand
We danced around to a rockin' band
And when I could, I gave that girl a hug
In the tunnel of love
You'll never know how great a kiss can feel
When you stop at the top of a Ferris wheel
When I fell in love down at Palisades Park
Down at Palisades Park
You know it's Palisades Park
Down at Palisades Park
