Maurice Chevalier's 127th Birthday

“A comfortable old age is the reward of a well-spent youth.
Instead of its bringing sad and melancholy prospects of decay,
it would give us hopes of eternal youth in a better world.”

“Just because we have taken one step down the wrong road is no reason why we have to take two.”

- Richard L. Evans
(23 Mar 1906 - 01 Nov 1971)

    Thanks so much, Susan!

From Steve Hochman ('60) of VA - 09/06/15:

I have not heard any typhoon news form you recently. I hope all is well! We all appreciate all you do!

Sincerely, Steve Hochman (60)

Oh, thank you, Steve! If you picked "Answer #3: Something's not quite right there", you'd be correct! I think the phrase is, "I was dealing with some issues" recently, particularly during the last two weeks.

Just within my own circle, there were five deaths the week running from August 30 to September 06, including my beloved cousin,     Clarke Booth (Wakefield HS - '57) (10 May 1939 - 30 Aug 2015), and while there were some deliciously bright and wonderful moments, there were a great many more reports of simply inconceivable happenings from practically every friend or acquaintance I have. Couple that with a few health concerns, and you find me overwhelmed and Lost in Space. Actually, I tend to work as long as I can, then rush off to jump back in my bed to binge on crocheting and watching film noir or WWII documentaries.

I'm trying to get back into the groove now, but as we all know, it's far easier to keep up than to catch up.

From Mayim Bialik (North Hollywood High School, CA - '93) of CA - 09/09/15:

I started preparing in earnest for Rosh HaShanah which starts Sunday night. How can repentance and forgiveness be joyful? How can we do better as people starting now? You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate this Aleph Beta 5 part animated course (each is about 10 min long) about it. I just finished Video 1 from my dressing room and I am starting #2 soon.

Thank you so much for sharing this thought provoking course, Mayim!

From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 09/10/15:

              Thanks, Joan!

From My Cousin, Jean Atkinson Mallory (Warsaw HS / Rappahannock HS / John Marshall HS - '65) of VA - 09/10/15:

Thanks, Jean! Who would understand this better than we two?!

From Margaret Elmore Tolly ('58) of VA - 09/11/15 - "A Gourdgeous Vertical Garden":

OOOH! Thank you, Margaret! This is mesmerizingly lovely!

From My Friend, Tina, of SC - 09/11/15:

Wowwww....I never thought to use the stem as a nose!! Have you??

Thank you, Tina! What a brilliant plan!

“I rolled up to his house, rolled up my sleeves, ate a Fruit Roll-Up, and left. Ah, but that’s life, no?

- Jarod Kintz
(b. 05 Mar 1982

From Judy Phillips Allen ('66) of VA - 07/22/15 - "Clever drawings. How does he earn his living? (#33 in a series of 33)":

    I love these!

This guy has a great sense of his creativity. Here is a guy with talent who is having a good time for all to enjoy.

David Zinn is an artist from Michigan. He runs around all day in the streets of Ann Arbor, with street construction, cracks, etc. on the road with chalk to create a lot of street fairy tales.

Thanks, Dearest Judy! These have been a pure delight!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 09/06/15 - "Surprising Facts You May Have Never Heard (#2 in a series of 21)":
No matter how old you are, or where you are from, people simply can’t know everything.

However, if you have an inquisitive mind, you probably love learning new things.

If this is the case, then these 21 facts will give your mind a good workout. (Plus, you can impress others with this exotic knowledge.)

   WOWZERS! Thanks, Dools!

From - 09/11/15:

A married couple, each 60 years old, was celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary.

During their party, a fairy appeared to congratulate them and grant them each one a wish.

The wife wanted to travel around the world.

The fairy waved her wand and poof -- the wife had tickets in her hand for a world cruise.

Next, the fairy asked the husband what he wanted.

He said, "I wish I had a wife 30 years younger than I am."

So the fairy picked up her wand and poof -- the husband was 90.

Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, 1958
(31 Aug 1918 – 14 June 1986)

Music by Frederick Loewe
(10 June 1901 - 14 Feb 1988)

Gigi . . . am I a fool without a mind
Or have I merely been too blind to realize?
Oh. Gigi . . . why you've been growin' up
Before my very eyes!

Gigi . . . you're not at all the funny
Awkward little girl I knew
Oh. no, overnight there's been a breathless
Change in you!

Gigi . . . while you were tremblin' on the brink
Was I out yonder somewhere blinkin' at a star?
Oh. Gigi . . . have I been standin' up too close
Or back too far?

When did your sparkle turn to fire
And your warmth become desire?
Oh, what miracle
Has made you the way you are?

< instrumental break >

Oh. Gigi . . . have I been standin' up too close
Or back too far?

When did your sparkle turn to fire
And your warmth become desire?
Oh, what miracle
Has made you the way you are?
