Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

    We have another sad Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.         Stanley Goodman, Class of June 1945, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the age of 83. His siblings, Phyllis Goodman Kemack (09 Aug 1923 - Feb 1986), and  Dr. Eugene Goodman (also June of 1945), preceded him in death.  May his memory be for a blessing always.

The below obit. is probably our classmate from June, 1945.  The age seems right.
 
Unfortunately I'm leaving town this morning and will not be back until Tuesday.

  HAMPTON - Stanley Goodman, born on Aug. 2, 1927, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010. He was a devoted and loving husband to Lena Laibstain Goodman; and father of Stuart Goodman (Judy), Eric Goodman (Janet), Edward Goodman (Holly) and Debra Goodman Altier (Alex).

HAMPTON - Stanley Goodman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Wilson, N.C., to Abe and Ann Goodman. The family moved to Newport News in the early forties. Upon graduation from Newport News High School in 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy and served as a hospital corpsman at the U.S. Naval Receiving Station in San Pedro, Calif. He received the American Area Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Stanley Goodman was the founder of Goodman & Son's Jewelers in Hampton and Williamsburg, and worked side by side with his wife, Lena, family and staff for many years.

Stan was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Phyllis and Daniel Kemack; and his brother, Dr. Eugene Goodman.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lena Laibstain Goodman; his sons, Stuart (Judy), Eric (Janet), Edward (Holly); daughter, Debra (Alex); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Evelyn Goodman; and brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Sarah Laibstain. He was very proud of all.

A funeral service will be conducted by Rabbi Norman Golner in B'nai Israel Synagogue, Hampton at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010. Burial will follow in the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula.

The Goodman family would like to thank Stephanie Wallace for her compassionate care given to Stanley and to the other health care providers that had taken care of him at home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the , Norfolk VA Office, 870 Greenbrier Circle, Greenbrier Tower II, Suite 104, Chesapeake, VA 23320 or B'nai Israel Synagogue, 3116 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23661, or your favorite charity.

Today, Virginia is less one great man.. My father Stanley Goodman was a pioneer of his industry and the most amazing. father ever.. I miss you, Dad.
