From Me ('65) of NC - 09/09/13:
| I awoke yesterday
morning even shorter of breath than I am on a normal bad day (is that
an oxymoron??). Staying home was not an option, but I wondered
how I was ever going to lead the music in church - and I had chosen four
of my favorite hymns, including "Onward, Christian Soldiers". I
made my way up to the stand, panting and gasping and looking far more
haggard than usual.
(who had arrived earlier for an extra set of meetings that don't
concern me) took one look at me and decided that at any minute he
was going to have to dart up to the stand and catch me when I fell.
Then the strangest thing happened. When I stood up (admittedly a bit shakily the first couple of times) and started to sing, my voice sounded better and stronger than it had in months, probably years!
Now I ask you, "Whaddup wit dat?!?"

|Brian Keith, USMC|
Thank you so much, Joe! I'm absolutely appalled that Brian Keith had not been included on our Famous Marines pages before; the image you found is a real treasure, so this is our New on Site entry of the day!

BAPTISM?!? How'd he get to be eight? We were thinking he was only turning SEVEN! How can this BE?!? We never were much good at math...
...I'm pretty sure he's eight, but I'm not too good at math either...
Yes, it's all coming back to me now. Obviously our mental health has not been much better than our physical health - which is crummy. We're so sorry we missed Jonathan's Big Day! Give them all hugs and kisses for us!
Thank you for the beautiful images, Megan!
From Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA - 09/08/13:
I sure hope you and Paul are on the mend. I'm giving you permission to decrease the number of newsletters week to no more than three...
Thanks, Linda-Linda! I'll take that under advisement and attempt it whenever possible! As strange as it may sound, sometimes two are easier than one (I know, it makes no sense to me either...)!
I hope we're on the mend, too; we're certainly giving it our best shot! We're beginning to feel like old cars: we fix one thing and something else breaks...

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 09/05/13 - "Shirley and Marcy":Shirley and Marcy
A mom was concerned
about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want her to
walk with him, and she wanted to give him a feeling of independence.
But she also wanted know that he was safe.
When she expressed her concern to her neighbor, Shirley offered to follow him to school in the mornings for a while, staying at a distance so he wouldn't notice. Shirley said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise.
All week long, Shirley and her daughter followed Timmy as he walked to school with another neighborhood girl.
As the two children walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's friend said, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'
Timmy replied, 'Yes, I know who she is. That's my mom's friend Shirley Goodnest and her little girl Marcy'.
'Shirley Goodnest? Why is she following us?'
'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life'. I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'
