09/08/10 - NNHS Newsletter - Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Shana Tova - May you be inscribed in the Book of Life!

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, begins this evening at sunset, ushering in the High Holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot).

This Holiday celebration repeats around this same time every year:

No doubt most of us are probably not personally observing this holiday, but we don't concern ourselves with such trifling details such as that here.  We try to celebrate everything together as the one big happy family that we are.  So we extend all our best wishes for all good things for all our friends and family!

   Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Please post this updated announcement when you have a moment.

Friday evening we’ll meet at 7:00 PM at the home of    Lynn Walker Brothers ’65 and her husband Barry (York HS - '65).  They have graciously extended an offer to open their home for the event.  Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and we would request a $5.00 donation to assist in covering the expenses for that evening if you attend.  The change in location was decided when members of the reunion committee thought the original location might not be as suitable for conversation as originally planned.  The Brothers residence is located at 304 Dogwood Drive, Newport News.  The telephone number is 757-595-4116.  We’ll post a map providing directions. - significantly updated 08/07/10 and 09/02/10!

This is my daughter Laura's dog in a contest to be on the cover of a bag of dog food.

Vote every day for Grace. Thanks.

Oh, Laura is your daughter, Norris! Well, that makes it all the more important!

I've included the link to all the candidates named Grace, along with the image of The Real Grace, lest there be any confusion. As y'all can see, she's a Weimaraner from Richmond.

Grace is #1 in pet of the month:

and #3 in pet of the year:

  WOWZERONI!!! That's fabulous, Norris!

Vote early, and vote often - or at least cast your allotted daily vote!

From Dimples Dinwiddie Prichard ('58) of NC - 09/04/10 - "  Charlotte Rawls Bowry ('59)"

Do you have any way that you can check Military Records for Charlotte, using both names ?  Her maiden and married !  It might offer a clue !

Thanks, Dimples! I do not have access to those records myself... It might still just be easier to just check with Charlotte's brother Lee (Rawls - Ferguson HS - '65) in Florida.  We DO know how to find him, at least!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 09/07/10 - "NNHS":

OK Wimpus:
Here is my recent message to
Donny White ('60 - of VA). I will share any reply received, invite him to visit your website.

Did your finger slip when you were "cutting and pasting" my earlier message? Otherwise, I need to return to NNHS English Classes.

No, no, I copied and pasted it correctly; I somehow accidentally removed several words later while I was tippie-toeing around in the html code!  SHHH! I fixed it now!

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

Greetings, Don:
Since your name has been battered around, in a very respectable manner, around the TYPHOON Nation, recently I thought I would take the liberty and muster the courage to write to you.
You do not remember me, Class of NNHS 1957, but I sure remember you and your athletic skills.
Did you retired from the United States Army...or are you still on Active Duty and assigned to VMI?
Army Strong,
Joseph Madagan
Major of Armor, USA (Ret)
GIGGLES!!! Now, see, Joe, isn't that far better than my having to write someone of whom I clearly stand in total awe, and stammer around, "Duh, s'cuse me, Mr. White, Sir, but, uh, wal, uh, we wuz wond'rin' ....."

   Thanks, Major Madagan!

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) of VA - 09/07/10 - "Deer Camp":

Deer Camp
Four guys have been going to the same deer camp for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Ron's wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going.

"Ron's friends are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do.

Two days later the three get to the camping site only to find Ron sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire.

"Dang man, how long you been here, and how did you talk your wife into letting you go?"

"Well, I've been here since yesterday. Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, 'Guess who?'

"I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing a brand new nightie.   She took my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did.

"And then she said, 'Do whatever you want.'

"So here I am."

"The Happiest People Don't Have the Best of Everything;
They just Make the Best of Everything They Have."

   WILD GIGGLES!!! Thanks, Norris!

From Phil Hammond ('64) of UT - 09/07/10 - "mountain goat in our neighborhood":

I guess he is up there because the season starts soon.

Yesterday afternoon we were partying on our deck and one of the dogs alerted us to the fact that there was a mountain goat on our friends roof next door.  The goat spent the night up there and has gone up and down grazing in their yard at intervals this morning.  There is a section of their roof that is low to the ground.   Modell and Wally just left for Florida on Friday!  Not too many people have had their house taken over by a mountain goat!!

WOWZERS!!! Well, I guess when you live in the wild, wild west, almost anything is possible!

Thanks for sharing these with us, Phil!

From ArcaMax Jokes - 09/03/10:

Penny Scale

A husband stepped on one of those penny scales that tell you your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin.

"Listen to this," he said to his wife, showing her a small, white card. "It says I'm energetic, bright, resourceful and a great lover."

"Yeah," his wife nodded, "and it has your weight wrong, too."
