09/05/15 - NNHS Newsletter - Five Minutes More

“If we discovered that we only had five minutes left to say all that we wanted to say,
every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people
to stammer that they loved them.”

Christopher Morley
(05 May 1890 - 28 Mar 1957)

BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQnziIrGSYY - Five Minutes More - Tex Beneke and The Glenn Miller Orchestra, 1946

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Minutes_More:

"Five Minutes More" is a 1946 American pop song written by Sammy Cahn (lyrics) and Jule Styne (music), originally recorded by the Ross Sisters and later recorded by Frank Sinatra. The song was often referred to as "Give Me Five Minutes More".

"Five Minutes More" was a number one hit for two (non-consecutive) weeks in 1946. The song ended up at number four on the year-end charts for 1946.[1] Sinatra re-recorded the song in 1961 for the album Come Swing With Me, and the track was released as a single the following year. Tex Beneke and the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded the song on May 27, 1946, RCA Victor 20-1922, with "Texas Tex" on the B-side.[2]

The Skyrockets Orchestra Conductor: Paul Fenoulhet with vocal by Doreen Lundy. Recorded in London on November 14, 1946. It was released by EMI on the His Master's Voice label as catalogue number BD 5955.

The song made its feature film debut in the 1946 movie Sweetheart of Sigma Chi sung by Phil Brito.

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 09/04/14:

Mr. Marlow was strolling through the country when he saw a stable with the most beautiful horse he ever laid eyes on. It was seventeen hands high and white, with rippling muscles and a fine, flowing mane. Mr. Marlow struck a deal to buy it from the owner who did, however, pass on one key piece of information.

"We are a religious family, Mr. Marlow, and we've instilled those values in our horse. To get him to gallop you must say, 'Thank God'; to get him to stop you must say' 'Our Father Who Art in Heaven."

Settling into the saddle, Marlow said, "Thank God," and the animal took off. They rode for miles. Suddenly they were coming up to a cliff. Unfortunately, Marlow couldn't remember the phrase to make the animal stop and tried every Biblical passage he could think of until, just a few feet from the edge of the cliff, he shouted, "Our Father Who Art in Heaven!"
The animal stopped instantly. Shaking and perspiring, Marlow reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief. "Thank God," he said as he mopped his brow...

All week long I dreamed about our Saturday date
Don't you know that Sunday morning you can sleep late

Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms

Here am I, begging for only five minutes more
Only five minutes more of your charms

All week long I dreamed about our Saturday date
Don't you know that Sunday morning you can sleep late

Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms
