each of them.

From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 08/30/05:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! That's the good news; the bad news: YOU'RE NOW AS OLD AS I AM!!!

GIGGLES!  Thanks, Wayne Honey!  That's not so bad; it seems to work just fine for you, and as you know -
"I'm still just a kid!"

From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 08/31/05:

Dear Carol,

Even though this is late I want to wish you a Happy Birthday and a happy year...filled with all the good things,
love, joy, and peace, friends and family.  Those are the things that matter.  Thank you again for all that you
have done to bind us together, Typhoons forever...none of my friends can comprehend this network that I
talk about...Many more happy birthdays to come.

Love, Jean (Poole) Burton '64

Oh, WOW, Jean!  You made me all "chokey"  Thanks so much!  We do have some something special here, and
if it's not always readily understood, that's sad.  But I'm so glad we have it!

From Gloria Woolard Price (Hampton HS - '65) of FL - 08/30/05:

When I saw the infamous lions at the Mariners Museum, I couldn't resist sending my own pictures from there.  The
top one was in Oct '73 (ahhh, bell bottom hip huggers!)......the second one was a lot of years later, but not sure
of date.  I don't know which lion I'm on, but I was being mischievous putting my finger up its nose........and
performing a reenactment in the second one.

Gloria, you are a HOOT!  These pictures are hysterical!  Thanks so much!  I posted them with the more staid images:

   And......

From Alice Fowler Edwards ('64) of VA - 08/30/05:

Carol,

The pix of the Lions from Mariner's Museum brought back SO many memories. I have a picture of me and
my sister Eleanor ('59) sitting atop the globe between the lion's legs ... I even wrote a poem about it some
years ago. If I can find it (smile) I'll scan it for you ... can't guarantee when!

So glad you're back on line ... I missed all the news. Take good care,

Alice Fowler Edwards

OHHH, thank you, Alice!  We'd love to have a copy of that picture - and your poem!

And thanks again - it's wonderful to be back where I belong!

same today......)

From Jennie Sheppard ('62) of NC - 08/30/05:

Dear Carol,

I'm so glad you're back.....I truly missed you and all the news about classmates.  Thank
you so much for all your terrific work to keep us in touch with each other.  Enjoyed
the pictures of Brenda's (Amos Williams - '62 - of VA) pooch too.....what a precious one!

I used to live in Biloxi, when my husband and I were stationed at Keesler AFB and have
a dear friend JoAnn (like a sister) there.  She is fine as is her daughter and
husband and two precious little granddaughters and Jo's brother, sister-in-law -
they are all in Mobile, AL as they evacuated the area the Gulfport, MS and Slidell,
LA areas.  Jo's brother actually lives in Mobile.   However, Jo's only son Butch and his
family stayed in Gulfport and she is worried sick about him as am I.  I used to baby-sit
him when he was 8 yrs old - 1966-1969.  I've got two HAM operators working
on trying to get a message to/from mother and son - hope you will all pray for him and
his family.

Thanks,  Jennie (Class of '62).  Typhoons Forever

Thank you, Jennie!  It's good to be home!  And doesn't Brenda have a pretty little puppy dog?!?

We're so sorry to hear of your friends' situation, Jennie.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to them, and indeed to all
who are are suffering in so many ways at this time.

   Speaking of which.....

From My Niece, Shari of VA - 08/30/05:

There are various contributions opportunities given at this site with free donations with a click
of your mouse. There is a link that explains how to help those affected by hurricane Katrina,
if you’ll scroll down. PLEASE PASS ON.

Have a nice night,

                             Shari

Thanks so much, Shari!  This is easy enough for all of us to do!

Now is definitely a time to act and do whatever it is you feel inspired to do to make a difference.

The Red Cross is a great place to start:

From Janice McCain Rose ('65) of VA - 08/30/05 - "Help the Animals":

For all my animal loving friends.........the Red Cross needs our donations now for the Hurricane Relief fund....but
the animals need our help too......check out the site below...and if you can, make a donation to help the animal
victims of Hurricane Katrina.....

http://www.noahs-wish.org/

My sweet daughter-in-law, Karen, thought that I should send a picture from the hurricane site...(I thought the picture
of my dog looking sad would appeal)...however, the tragic story needs to get everyone's attention......the attached
picture is a perfect example of one of the animals in distress and in need of rescue.......please help if you can...

From Jo Ann Stewart ('64) of TX - 08/30/05:

Hi Carol -

Didn't know you were back "on" so I checked - Yea!!.  Haven't gotten a newsletter so you must be using my
work addy which doesn't work very well - too many filters on it.  Be sure and send them to .....  I missed you!!!!

Regards,
Jo Ann Stewart

Hey, Jo Ann!  I'm glad you found us again!  I switched your email addy accordingly.  You only missed about 15
Newsletters; it shouldn't take you too long - GIGGLES!!!

Thanks for looking.  I was gone so long I was afraid everyone would have lost interest permanently.

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 08/30/05:

Travel Brochure - Side One Travel Brochure - Side Two

OHHHH, David - it's beautiful!!!  Thank you so much!

I left these images uncompressed so that they might be more easily read, enjoyed, and relived, and I gave
them top billing on the Buckroe Beach page:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/OOSG-A-B.html

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/buckroe-beach.html

Up on the Roof

Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King

Peaked at # 5 in 1963

Later covered as minor Top 100 singles by The Cryan' Shames in 1968
and by Laura Nyro in 1970:
by James Taylor as a slower-paced Top 30 pop version in 1979.
Also covered as album tracks by co-songwriter Carole King in 1970
[Carole King Writer CD] and by Neil Diamond in 1993 [Neil Diamond Up on the Roof CD].

(The Drifters)

When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now

When I come home feelin' tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof)
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all that rat-race noise down in the street (up on the roof)
On the roof, the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let's go up on the roof (up on the roof)

brief instrumental-chiefly strings

At night the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me

I keep a-tellin' you

Right smack dab in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble proof (up on the roof)
And if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof (up on the roof)
Up on the roo-oo-oof (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, baby (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, honey (up on the roof)
FADE

Everything is all right (up on the roof)
