Close Every Door

“There's more to be feared from closed minds than from closed doors.”

Frank Tyger
(24 Dec 1929 - 02 May 2011)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's song - and the show itself - was introduced to me seven years ago by        My #5 Son, Nathaniel Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '97) (now) of MO.

   Thanks, Faniel!

BONUS - Close Every Door - Donny Osmond

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close_Every_Door:

"Close Every Door" is a song from the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is the penultimate song of the first act of the musical, sung by Joseph while imprisoned for his supposed relationship with Potiphar's wife.

In addition to voicing Joseph's despair at being jailed for a crime he did not commit, the song appears to contain oblique references to the Jewish Holocaust of World War II. Lyrics such as "Just give me a number/Instead of my name ... Destroy me completely/Then throw me away" reflect the well-documented Nazi practices of tattooing numbers on imprisoned Jews and working them to death (or gassing them) in concentration camps, then burning the bodies or burying them in mass graves. The lyrics have even been incorporated into a Seder service for educators in New South Wales...[1]

  HURRICANE DORIAN UPDATE!

Dorian is ever so slowly beginning her turn toward Florida and now has sustained winds over 100. She will slow down as she nears the coast which will cause the direct arrival at Florida to be somewhat questionable right up until landfill. It will likely be on Monday, but could be later depending on forward speed. What we do know for sure is it will be packing winds of 140 sustained with gusts to over 160, so it's no laughing matter nor is it time for a hurricane party. Nearly all of the state will be impacted and expect extensive damage, major property damage, thousand of trees down and millions of acres flooded, both on the beach and inland.

The good news is once the storm comes ashore, winds will back off quickly and within twelve hours it will be down to sustained at 75 (minimal hurricane) with gusts to 90. The bad news is the steering currents will weaken and it could meander for several days over Florida dumping extensive rain until finally moving north as a wet tropical system. That's it for now; I'll be back again at 5 pm for an update. Have a blessed day and I hope you have fair winds and following seas where you are.

   YOWZERONI! Thank you, Jimmy!

Norman Rockwell painting I love. Reminds me of my family--Daddy with cigar, "Nanny" Smith in back seat, dog, 2 girls & 2 boys, black car. But we never had a boat! Expressions GOING and then RETURNING are priceless!

WOWZERONI-RINI! Thank you so much, Jane! This magazine cover is just what I need for my baby album, as it appeared on the very day I was born! I have plenty of high grade photo paper for my printer; now if only it were not broken!

Made with a brick and a few bottle caps, knitting up a cozy for this project is super fun and easy to do. Use up your yarn scraps and make something practical (and adorable) for the house at the same time. Close Every Door

From Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , 1972

Lyrics by Tim Rice (b. 10 Nov 1944)

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber (b. 22 Mar 1948)

Close every door to me,
Hide all the world from me
Bar all the windows
And shut out the light
Do what you want with me,
Hate me and laugh at me
Darken my daytime
And torture my night

If my life were important I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world

Close every door to me,
Keep those I love from me
Children of Israel
Are never alone
For I know I shall find
My own peace of mind
For I have been promised
A land of my own

Close every door to me,
Hide all the world from me
Bar all the windows
And shut out the light

Just give me a number
Instead of my name
Forget all about me
And let me decay
I do not matter,
I'm only one person
Destroy me completely
Then throw me away

If my life were important I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world

Close every door to me,
Keep those I love from me
Children of Israel
Are never alone
For we know we shall find
Our own peace of mind
For we have been promised
A land of our own
